Darkhorse bounce back, overwhelm Yangkees to revive playoff push

The Valenzuela City Darkhorse left no room for another heartbreaking finish, turning in a wire-to-wire performance to dismantle the Imus Yangkees, 129-97, on Monday in the MPBL 2026 Season at One Arena Cainta.

After letting fourth-quarter leads slip away in each of their previous three games, the Darkhorse responded with one of their most complete outings of the season, dominating on both ends to keep their postseason aspirations alive.

Valenzuela showcased its depth with six players scoring in double figures, led by Geremy Robinson Jr., as it stretched the margin to as much as 32 points before securing its ninth victory in 19 games.

Robinson delivered an all-around performance, finishing with 22 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and three blocks while knocking down four shots from beyond the arc. Jay Collado provided steady support with 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

"We just wanted to come back today and come back strong," Robinson said. "That's why my attitude was just to attack and keep pushing myself."

JR Olegario and Justin Alano each scored 13 points, with Olegario also dishing out five assists. Nick Baluyot contributed 11 points, four assists, two rebounds, and two steals, while Nico Mamaradlo posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

The victory lifted Valenzuela to 9-10 and into ninth place in the North Division, putting the team back on track after consecutive defeats to Marikina, Batangas, and Pasig.

Imus, meanwhile, absorbed its 16th loss in 18 games despite a strong showing from JM Marquez, who finished with 28 points and seven rebounds. Paul Christian Ferrer chipped in 12 points and three boards.

The MPBL resumes Tuesday at the Orion Sports Complex with Imus facing Valenzuela at 4 p.m., followed by Abra against Bacolod at 6 p.m. and Marikina versus Ilagan Isabela at 8 p.m.
