Alas Pilipinas teams brace for tough Asian Games road after challenging draws

The challenge awaiting Alas Pilipinas in the Asian Games volleyball tournament has become clearer — and it will require the country’s best performances on the continental stage.

Both the men’s and women’s national teams were handed difficult assignments during the official draw for the Nagoya-Aichi 2026 Asian Games, placing them among some of Asia’s strongest volleyball nations.

The women’s squad, ranked No. 61 in the FIVB World Rankings, will begin its campaign in Group B against a formidable pair of opponents: world No. 7 China and No. 39 Kazakhstan.

The men’s team faces an equally demanding road after being drawn into Group D. Ranked No. 96 globally, Alas Men will go up against No. 26 South Korea, No. 35 China, and No. 60 Chinese Taipei as they chase a spot in the next stage.

The two national squads head into the Asian Games while still sharpening their form. Alas Men are currently competing in the second leg of the 2026 SEA V.League, while the women’s team is preparing for the start of its own SEA V.League campaign later this month.

The women’s tournament will feature several powerhouse groups, led by host Japan in Group A. The world No. 6 team will face Indonesia and Nepal, while Group C brings together Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia.

Group D will feature Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Qatar.

On the men’s side, the competition will be just as intense. World No. 4 Japan headlines Pool A against Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran leads Pool B, where it will be joined by Indonesia, Thailand, and Kyrgyzstan, while Pool C features Qatar, India, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

With the draw now complete, both Alas Pilipinas teams know exactly what stands between them and a deep Asian Games run.

The road will be difficult, but the challenge also provides an opportunity for the Philippine squads to measure themselves against Asia’s elite and continue building toward a bigger future in international volleyball.
