Tamaraws strengthen playoff bid with convincing win over Kuyas

Mindoro continued its climb up the MPBL standings on Monday, putting together a balanced performance to overpower Bulacan, 97-79, and break into the South Division's Top 7 in the 2026 Season elimination round at the Mandaluyong City College of Science and Technology Gym.

Needing a win to improve its postseason position, the Tamaraws delivered on both ends of the floor. They shot an efficient 50 percent from the field, controlled the rebounding battle, 46-36, and steadily pulled away to improve to 10-9, leapfrogging Basilan Steel (10-11) for seventh place in the South Division.

Leading the charge was John Apacible, who dominated the paint with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and two assists to earn Best Player of the Game honors.

"I'm pushing myself so that I can help my team," Apacible said. "My teammates and coaches have been very supportive."

Mindoro also received balanced support throughout its lineup. Bambam Gamalinda contributed 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while JC Recto added 11 points, four assists, and two rebounds. RJ Ramirez and Joshua Flores finished with nine points each, and Jayvee Dela Cruz scored eight.

Bulacan struggled to keep pace despite another outstanding offensive effort from Jefremy Cruz, who poured in a game-high 29 points while adding five rebounds and three assists. Kenneth Castillo chipped in 11 points and three rebounds as the Kuyas slipped to 5-15.

The MPBL schedule resumes Tuesday at the Ynares Center Montalban, where San Juan meets Negros at 3 p.m., Zamboanga faces Batangas at 5 p.m., and Sarangani takes on Rizal at 7 p.m.
