Manday’s hot hand fuels Batang Kankaloo’s fourth straight win

Jeff Manday needed only 17 minutes and 23 seconds to put on a shooting clinic.

The Caloocan guard matched his season high with 10 three-pointers and erupted for 30 points as the Batang Kankaloo blasted Sarangani 10ACT, 113-83, on Friday in the 2026 MPBL Season at One Arena Cainta in Rizal.

Manday's shooting spree sparked a long-range assault that saw Caloocan knock down 19 triples on 41 attempts. The barrage allowed the Batang Kankaloo to pull away early and cruise to their fourth consecutive victory, improving to 17-2 in the round-robin elimination phase.

The 6-foot combo guard, one of Caloocan's prized recruits from Bacolod City, credited his performance to the work he continues to put in behind the scenes.

"I've been doing this (shooting 3s) in practice," said Manday. "It's part of my preparations every day."

Caloocan's offense clicked from all areas of the floor as the team built a commanding 39-point advantage, 107-68, before easing its way to the final buzzer.

Homegrown standouts also stepped up in the victory. Irven Palencia added 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists, while Joseph Manlangit finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Jeramer Cabanag chipped in 11 points.

Sarangani, meanwhile, struggled to keep pace with Caloocan's offensive explosion despite strong individual performances. Leland Estacio led the Marlins with 18 points, while Danny Marilao contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Migs Pascual and Alex Desoyo added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The victory kept Caloocan firmly among the league's elite, while Sarangani dropped further in the standings at 4-17.

Earlier in the day, Valenzuela City boosted its playoff hopes with an 87-80 victory over Bulacan.

JR Olegario carried the Darkhorse attack with 24 points, while Lester Reyes added 13 points. Jay Collado came close to a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as Valenzuela improved to 10-12.

Bulacan slipped to 5-14 and faces an uphill battle to secure a spot in the play-in tournament.

The MPBL spotlight now shifts to Saturday's marquee matchup between two of the league's hottest teams, as Abra Solid North and Binan Tatak Gel collide at Alonte Sports Arena at 7 p.m.

The defending champion Weavers enter riding a 15-game winning streak, while Binan brings a 13-game surge of its own in what promises to be one of the biggest clashes of the elimination round.
