Dela Cruz, Cowboys rally past Hacienderos to stay in playoff race

A slow start did not shake Ilagan Isabela's confidence.

After falling behind early, the Cowboys found their rhythm behind Arth Dela Cruz and Kyle Paranada, overcoming Negros Hacienderos, 101-89, on Saturday in the 2026 MPBL Season at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Negros raced ahead 18-11 after the opening quarter, but Ilagan Isabela responded with a strong second-period surge, turning a six-point deficit into a 48-36 halftime advantage. From there, the Cowboys controlled the pace and secured their 13th win of the campaign.

The victory improved Ilagan Isabela to 13-7 in the elimination round and kept the team firmly positioned in the North Division playoff picture. The Cowboys remain fourth in the standings behind Abra Solid North, Caloocan, and San Juan.

Dela Cruz set the tone early, already recording a double-double by halftime with 12 points and 10 rebounds. He finished the night with 20 points, 14 boards, and four assists, leading Ilagan Isabela on both ends of the floor.

Allen Mina provided the finishing touches, delivering 17 points and eight assists while scoring the Cowboys' final seven points to keep Negros at bay.

Still, Dela Cruz pointed to teamwork rather than individual numbers as the key to the victory.

"We are all inclined to follow the team's system."

The Cowboys also received valuable contributions from homegrown talents TJ Felebrico, who posted 12 points and three rebounds, and Jayboy Solis, who added 10 points and eight boards.

One of Ilagan Isabela's biggest advantages came from the free-throw line, where the team converted 26 of 29 attempts. Negros, meanwhile, struggled to capitalize on its chances, making only eight of 16 foul shots.

The Hacienderos continued to fight despite falling to 1-18, led by Michael Alvarez's 26-point, seven-rebound performance. DJ Howe added 17 points, while Flever Dignadice finished with 15 points and six rebounds.

With the playoffs approaching, every victory carries added importance for Ilagan Isabela. The Cowboys will look to maintain their momentum as they continue their push for a strong postseason position.
