Camacho delivers in the clutch as Greats steal dramatic win over Huskers

For most of the night, the Quezon Huskers looked destined to strengthen their position in the MPBL standings.

Simon Camacho had other plans.

The Cebu Greats erased a nine-point deficit in the closing minutes before Camacho delivered the game-winning layup with 46 seconds left to complete a stunning 80-79 comeback victory on Monday at the Mandaluyong City College of Science and Technology Gym.

The thrilling win lifted Cebu to 16-5 in the MPBL 2026 Season and kept the Greats firmly in the hunt for a coveted top-four finish in the South Division.

With the Huskers holding a comfortable 77-68 advantage late in the fourth quarter, Cebu mounted one final charge. The Greats scored 12 of the game's final 14 points, with Camacho's driving layup putting them ahead for the first time since the closing minutes.

The defense did the rest.

Quezon failed to score again as costly mistakes—including a turnover by Cyrus Tabi and an inbound error by Joshua Yerro—derailed its comeback hopes.

Camacho then showed veteran poise at the foul line. After sinking his first free throw with 2.2 seconds remaining, he intentionally missed the second attempt, preventing the Huskers from getting a clean final possession.

Former Huskers standout Alfrancis Tamsi led Cebu against his former team with 25 points, knocking down seven three-pointers and adding two assists to earn Best Player of the Game honors.

"We worked hard for this," Tamsi said. "After struggling in our home games, we made adjustments and our game improved."

Mark Meneses supplied a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Wowie Escosio scored 10 points. Ichie Altamirano and Limuel Tampus added eight markers apiece.

The victory kept Cebu in fifth place, just behind Batangas City, Quezon Province, Biñan, and Gensan as the race for homecourt advantage in the quarterfinals continues.

The loss was a painful one for Quezon, which controlled the contest for nearly 34 minutes and built a lead as large as 14 points before watching it slip away in the closing stretch.

Cedric Manzano finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists to lead the Huskers, while Joshua Yerro added 12 points and Chris Lalata contributed nine.

In the evening's second game, Gensan cruised past Quezon City, 88-72, behind Anton Eusebio's 19-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Joshua Fontanilla added 14 points, while veteran playmaker Hesed Gabo registered 10 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds, reaching the 1,000-point mark to go along with his place in the league's 1,000-assist club. RJ Minerva contributed 13 points as the Warriors strengthened their position in the South Division standings.
