SV Rödinghausen secured a gritty 2-1 victory over Sportfreunde Lotte in the German Regionalliga on Saturday evening at the Häcker Wiehenstadion. The win keeps Rödinghausen firmly in the hunt for a top-half finish in the Regionalliga West, while Lotte were left to rue a missed opportunity to climb the table.

Match Overview

The hosts started brightly and took the lead midway through the first half when a swift counter-attack ended with a crisp finish into the bottom corner. Lotte responded well before the break, equalising through a well-worked set-piece that caught the Rödinghausen defence flat-footed. The second half was a tense, tactical battle, but Rödinghausen found a late winner with a powerful header from a corner, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Rödinghausen open the scoring with a low drive after a quick transition.
• 41st minute: Lotte equalise from a free-kick, nodding home at the back post.
• 78th minute: Rödinghausen’s substitute striker forces a superb save from the Lotte goalkeeper.
• 86th minute: The winning goal arrives — a towering header from a corner that beats the keeper at his near post.

Tactical Story

Rödinghausen set up in a flexible 4-2-3-1, looking to press Lotte’s deep-lying midfielders and spring quick counter-attacks. Lotte, operating in a 4-4-2, tried to use width to stretch the home defence, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances in open play. The game turned on Rödinghausen’s superior set-piece defending in the second half and their willingness to commit bodies forward late on.

Standout Players

Rödinghausen’s captain was a rock at the back, winning numerous aerial duels, while the goalscorer of the winner showed excellent movement to lose his marker. For Lotte, their left winger was a constant threat, delivering several dangerous crosses and scoring the equaliser with a well-timed run.

Season Impact

The three points move Rödinghausen up the Regionalliga West standings, reinforcing their reputation as a tough team to beat at home. Lotte remain in mid-table, but they will need to convert more of their possession into goals if they are to push for a higher finish. Next up, Rödinghausen face a tricky away trip, while Lotte return home looking to bounce back.
