Siegen Sportfreunde produced an impressive attacking display to beat Rot-Weiss Oberhausen 3-1 in the German Regionalliga West on 17 October 2026. The hosts scored three times in a confident performance, handing Oberhausen a defeat that leaves them with plenty to review after a difficult evening.

Match overview

Siegen Sportfreunde began the match with high intensity, pressing Oberhausen’s defenders and forcing errors in the early stages. The home side took the lead after a period of sustained pressure and looked the more dangerous team throughout the first half. Rot-Weiss Oberhausen found an equaliser against the run of play, but they were unable to build on it.

The second half belonged to Siegen. They restored their advantage with a well-worked goal and added a third late on as Oberhausen pushed forward in search of a response. The scoreline reflected the hosts’ greater sharpness in the final third and their ability to turn possession into clear chances.

Key moments

• Siegen take an early lead: The hosts opened the scoring after a spell of pressure, finishing from close range.
• Oberhausen equalise: A quick counterattack brought the visitors level and briefly changed the momentum of the match.
• Siegen regain control: The home side restored their lead after the break with a composed finish following a neat build-up.
• Third goal seals it: Siegen added a late goal to put the result beyond doubt and cap a strong attacking performance.

Tactical story

Siegen Sportfreunde’s pressing game caused problems from the opening whistle. By closing down Oberhausen’s midfield quickly, they won the ball in advanced areas and were able to create chances without needing long passing sequences. The home side’s movement between the lines was particularly effective, and Oberhausen struggled to track runners arriving in the penalty area.

Rot-Weiss Oberhausen’s equaliser showed they could be dangerous on the break, but they were unable to sustain pressure. As the match opened up in the second half, Siegen’s superior fitness and sharper passing allowed them to control the tempo. Oberhausen’s defence was stretched repeatedly, and the third goal came as the visitors committed more players forward in an attempt to salvage a point.

Standout performers

Siegen’s attacking unit was the difference. The home side’s centre-forward led the line well, holding up play and bringing midfielders into the match, while the wide players provided constant threat. In midfield, Siegen’s captain set the tone with aggressive pressing and intelligent distribution. For Oberhausen, the equalising goalscorer was their brightest moment, but the visitors’ defence will need to improve after conceding three times.

What it means

The three points are a statement result for Siegen Sportfreunde in the German Regionalliga West, underlining their attacking potential and their ability to respond after conceding. For Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, it is a sobering night: they showed flashes of quality but were second best for long spells. With the league table beginning to take shape, Siegen will hope this performance becomes a benchmark, while Oberhausen must regroup quickly to avoid a damaging run.
