Hessen Kassel 0-3 VfR Mannheim — VfR Mannheim delivered a ruthless away performance in the Regionalliga Südwest, defeating Hessen Kassel 3-0 at the Auestadion. The visitors scored in the first half, added a second after the break and sealed the win with a late third, leaving Kassel to rue a game in which they had territory but lacked a cutting edge.

Match overview

Kassel began with purpose and tried to impose themselves through possession, but Mannheim’s mid-block made it difficult to find space in central areas. The visitors were compact, patient and dangerous on the counter, and they took the lead midway through the first half with a well-executed move. Kassel pushed forward after the interval, but Mannheim’s defensive discipline held firm before a second goal on the break gave them breathing room. A late third completed a professional away display.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Mannheim opened the scoring with a composed finish after a quick transition through midfield.
• 54th minute: A counter-attack doubled the lead, with the visitors finishing clinically from inside the box.
• 71st minute: Kassel forced a save from a set-piece, their clearest moment of the second half.
• 82nd minute: Mannheim added a third to confirm the result and silence the home crowd.

Tactical story

Mannheim’s game plan was clear: stay compact, deny central access and strike in transition. Their midfield screen protected the back four well, and the full-backs were disciplined about choosing when to advance. Kassel’s full-backs pushed high in search of overloads, but that left space behind for Mannheim to exploit. The visitors also defended crosses effectively, limiting Kassel to hopeful deliveries rather than clear-cut chances.

Standout players

Mannheim’s forward was the focal point of the win, leading the line with intelligent movement and a clinical finish. The midfield anchor was equally important, winning duels and starting counters with simple, forward passes. The goalkeeper handled everything Kassel threw at him in the air, while Kassel’s best performer was probably their central midfielder, who kept working despite the scoreline.

Season impact

The away win gives Mannheim a significant boost in the Regionalliga Südwest table and underlines their ability to win without dominating possession. For Kassel, the defeat adds pressure, especially because the performance lacked the finishing quality needed to turn pressure into goals. They will need a sharper response in their next home fixture.
