Tactical Story

Hessen Kassel, however, were resilient and dangerous from set pieces. Their equalisers came from dead-ball situations, underlining the importance of their aerial presence. As the game became more open, Kassel’s direct running caused problems, while Ulm continued to look threatening on the counter.

Standout Players

Tobias Damm was Hessen Kassel’s key figure, scoring the late equaliser and competing strongly in the air throughout. Florian Heister also impressed with his energy and positioning. For SSV Ulm 1846, Dennis Kroll and Maurice Weber both scored well-taken goals, while their midfield controller kept the team ticking for long spells.

What the Result Means

The draw keeps SSV Ulm 1846 in the thick of the Regionalliga promotion conversation, though they will feel two dropped points after leading twice. Hessen Kassel, meanwhile, will take encouragement from their fighting spirit and their ability to respond under pressure.

For Kassel, the result is a reminder that they can compete with the stronger sides in the division when they defend set pieces well and take their chances. For Ulm, the focus will be on game management: turning dominant spells into wins rather than allowing opponents back into matches. In a tightly contested Regionalliga season, this 2-2 draw could be remembered as a night of missed opportunities and resilient football.
