FSV Zwickau 0-3 Erzgebirge Aue: Aue claim derby bragging rights with clinical away win

Erzgebirge Aue secured a convincing 3-0 victory over FSV Zwickau in the German Regionalliga on 24 October 2026, turning a tense local derby into a comfortable away win. Aue were clinical in front of goal and disciplined without the ball, while Zwickau were left to rue a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

The result gives Aue bragging rights in the Saxon rivalry and three important points in the Regionalliga table. For Zwickau, it was a frustrating evening: they had periods of possession but were undone by Aue’s sharper transitions and better decision-making in the penalty area.

Match overview

Zwickau started with intent, pushing bodies forward and trying to use the home crowd to their advantage. They enjoyed more of the ball in the opening stages, but Aue’s defensive shape remained compact and organised. The visitors were happy to concede territory, sitting in a mid-to-low block and looking to strike on the counter-attack.

The opening goal changed the complexion of the match. Aue’s confidence grew, while Zwickau became more anxious in possession. After the break, Aue managed the game expertly, adding a second goal and then a third as Zwickau pushed forward in search of a way back. The final scoreline flattered the visitors only slightly; they were the more efficient side throughout.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Aue took the lead against the run of play, finishing a quick counter-attack with a low shot across the goalkeeper.
• 52nd minute: Zwickau’s hopes suffered a major blow when Aue doubled the lead from a well-worked set-piece.
• 76th minute: The visitors sealed the win with a third goal, breaking through the middle after Zwickau lost the ball in midfield.

Tactical story

Aue’s game plan was built on defensive discipline and rapid transitions. Their back four stayed narrow, forcing Zwickau’s wingers into less dangerous areas, and the midfield pressed selectively rather than chasing the ball. When Aue won possession, they looked to play forward within two or three passes, targeting the space behind Zwickau’s advanced full-backs.

Zwickau’s biggest problem was their inability to turn possession into clear chances. They moved the ball from side to side but struggled to break through the central defensive pair. When they did create space out wide, their crosses were often cleared by Aue’s well-positioned defenders. The home side also left themselves exposed when pushing forward, which Aue exploited ruthlessly.

Standout performers

Aue’s goalkeeper deserves credit for two important saves in the first half, including a strong stop at 0-0 that kept the visitors level. The centre-back pairing was dominant in the air, while the midfield worked tirelessly to close down Zwickau’s passing lanes. The Aue forward who opened the scoring set the tone with his movement and link-up play.

For Zwickau, the captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield, and the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score down. However, the attacking players lacked the sharpness needed to trouble Aue’s defence, and the home side’s final ball repeatedly let them down.

Table impact

The three points strengthen Aue’s position in the German Regionalliga standings and give them momentum in the race for promotion. A clean sheet in a derby is always valuable, and the manner of the win will boost confidence in the dressing room. For Zwickau, the defeat leaves them with work to do and raises questions about their ability to break down well-organised opponents.

The head-to-head record now favours Aue in this latest chapter of the rivalry, and their supporters will enjoy the result for some time. Zwickau must regroup quickly, because the Regionalliga offers little time to dwell on disappointing nights.
