FC Schoningen 08 2-1 ETSV Weiche Flensburg: Late Winner Decides Regionalliga Battle

FC Schoningen 08 edged ETSV Weiche Flensburg 2-1 in a hard-fought German Regionalliga encounter on 17 September 2026, with a late goal at the Elmstadion settling a tense contest. The home side took an early lead, were pegged back after the interval, and then found a decisive moment in the closing stages to claim a valuable three points.

The match was typical of the Regionalliga Nord: physical, direct, and decided by small details. Schoningen 08 started brightly and looked the more dangerous team in the first half, but Weiche Flensburg grew into the game and equalised with a well-worked set-piece routine. Just when the visitors looked likely to hold on for a draw, Schoningen found the winning goal.

Match Overview

FC Schoningen 08 began with high energy, pressing Weiche Flensburg’s defenders and forcing turnovers in midfield. Their reward came in the 18th minute when a quick passage of play ended with a low finish into the far corner. The home crowd sensed an important win, but Weiche responded well and began to enjoy more possession as the half wore on.

After the break, ETSV Weiche Flensburg pushed higher up the pitch and found an equaliser in the 55th minute. A deep free-kick was flicked toward the back post, and the visitors’ centre-back powered a header past the goalkeeper. The game then became stretched, with both teams trading chances before Schoningen struck the winner in the 84th minute.

Key Moments

• 18th minute – Schoningen open the scoring: A clever through ball split the Weiche defence, and the home striker kept his composure to slot home from inside the area.
• 55th minute – Weiche equalise: ETSV Weiche Flensburg made their pressure count when a set-piece found its way to the back post for a powerful headed finish.
• 71st minute – Schoningen denied by the woodwork: The home side nearly restored their lead when a curling effort from outside the box struck the crossbar.
• 84th minute – Schoningen grab the winner: A late attack down the left produced a dangerous cross, and the ball was turned in at the near post to make it 2-1.

Tactical Story

Schoningen 08 set up in a 4-4-2 and looked to play forward quickly, especially through the channels. Their front two worked hard to close down Weiche’s centre-backs, and the midfield unit supported well by winning second balls. It was not always pretty, but it was effective in the moments that mattered.

ETSV Weiche Flensburg used a 4-2-3-1 and tried to build patiently from the back. They were at their best after half-time, when their wide players began to find space between Schoningen’s full-back and centre-back. However, the equaliser did not lead to a period of sustained control, and Schoningen’s late pressure eventually told.

Standout Players

Schoningen’s striker was the clear focal point, scoring the opener and remaining a constant threat with his movement in behind. The left winger also impressed, delivering the cross that led to the winning goal. In central defence, Schoningen’s captain made several important clearances as Weiche pushed for a second equaliser.

For Weiche Flensburg, the centre-back who scored the equaliser was their best performer, dominant in the air at both ends of the pitch. Their goalkeeper also made two smart saves to keep the score level for long periods, but he could do little about the late winner.

What the Result Means in the Regionalliga Table

The three points are significant for FC Schoningen 08, who will see this as a statement result in the Regionalliga Nord. Wins against direct rivals can shape a season, and this late victory should boost confidence in the dressing room. It also improves the club’s position in the standings heading into the next matchday.

ETSV Weiche Flensburg leave with nothing despite a resilient second-half display. The club will need to turn narrow defeats into draws and wins if it is to climb the table. The Regionalliga is unforgiving, and points away from home are often decisive in the battle for stability and long-term ambitions.
