DJK Vilzing and FV Illertissen played out a sensational 3-3 draw on Saturday evening in the German Regionalliga Bayern. The match swung one way and then the other, with Illertissen scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to deny Vilzing a famous comeback victory.

Six goals, numerous chances, and a tense finish made this one of the most entertaining fixtures of the Regionalliga Bayern season so far.

Match Overview

FV Illertissen started the brighter of the two teams, taking the lead in the 11th minute through a well-placed finish. DJK Vilzing responded well, equalising in the 25th minute after a period of sustained pressure. Illertissen restored their advantage in the 38th minute, but Vilzing came out for the second half with renewed purpose.

The hosts scored twice in the second half to take a 3-2 lead, and it looked as though they would claim all three points. However, Illertissen never gave up and found a dramatic equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time.

Key Moments

• 11th minute – Illertissen take the lead: A sharp turn and shot from the edge of the box gave the visitors an early advantage.
• 25th minute – Vilzing equalise: Maximilian Berger finished off a flowing move, firing low into the bottom corner.
• 38th minute – Illertissen retake the lead: A defensive mix-up allowed Illertissen's striker to score from close range.
• 52nd minute – Vilzing level again: Berger grabbed his second, heading home a cross from the right.
• 74th minute – Vilzing lead for the first time: A stunning 25-yard strike from substitute Tobias Lang sent the home crowd into delirium.
• 90+2 minutes – Illertissen equalise: Daniel Wolf scored his second of the game, poking home from a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-3.

Tactical Story

Both teams prioritised attack over defence, leading to an open and end-to-end contest. DJK Vilzing used width effectively, with their full-backs overlapping to create crossing opportunities. FV Illertissen, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counter and through set-pieces.

Defensively, both sides were guilty of switching off at key moments. Vilzing's back four struggled with Illertissen's movement in the box, while Illertissen allowed too many crosses into their penalty area. The result was a thrilling but chaotic match that will give both coaches plenty to analyse.

Standout Players

Maximilian Berger (DJK Vilzing) was the home side's best player, scoring twice and leading the comeback with his energy and finishing.

Daniel Wolf (FV Illertissen) was the hero for the visitors, scoring two goals including the last-gasp equaliser. His composure in front of goal was crucial.

Tobias Lang (DJK Vilzing) made a huge impact from the bench, scoring a spectacular goal that briefly put his team ahead.

Season Impact

The draw keeps both teams in mid-table positions in the Regionalliga Bayern standings. For DJK Vilzing, it is a point gained after a spirited comeback, but they will be disappointed not to have held on for the win. FV Illertissen will be delighted with their resilience, as they showed the kind of character that can define a season.

Both sides remain within touching distance of the playoff places, and if they can tighten up defensively, they could yet make a push up the table. This six-goal thriller was a reminder of the entertainment value in the Regionalliga Bayern and the fine margins that decide matches at this level.
