Benfica Women produced a statement performance in the Portugal Women's Super Cup, dismantling Gdessa Barreiro Women 73-31 in a one-sided final that was effectively decided inside the opening ten minutes. The Lisbon giants controlled every phase of the game, combining relentless defensive pressure with efficient perimeter shooting to claim the trophy in emphatic fashion.

Match Overview

Cup finals are often tense, cagey affairs. This one was not. Benfica came out with a clear intent to impose their tempo, pressing high, switching aggressively on screens, and turning Barreiro's early possessions into hurried, contested looks. By the end of the first quarter the contest already felt settled.

The 42-point margin reflects the gap in depth and execution between the two squads, but it also reflects Benfica's intensity — a team that treated a Super Cup final as a chance to set the tone for the season ahead.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• Q1: Benfica 22 – 8 Gdessa Barreiro
• Q2: Benfica 18 – 9 Gdessa Barreiro
• Q3: Benfica 17 – 6 Gdessa Barreiro
• Q4: Benfica 16 – 8 Gdessa Barreiro
• Final: Benfica Women 73 – 31 Gdessa Barreiro Women

The third quarter was the most punishing of all: Barreiro managed just six points in ten minutes, their offence completely stifled by Benfica's rotations and help defence.

Key Moments

The game's defining stretch came late in the first quarter, when Benfica closed the period on a 12-0 run built on back-to-back steals and quick transition baskets. Barreiro's timeout did little to stem the tide, and a three-pointer early in the second quarter pushed the lead past twenty.

From there it was a matter of professionalism. Benfica rotated their bench, kept the defensive standards high, and never allowed Barreiro to string together more than two consecutive scoring possessions.

Tactical Story

Benfica's defensive scheme was the story of the night. They denied easy entry passes into the post, forced Barreiro's guards to their weaker hand, and contested nearly every jump shot. On offence, Benfica played unselfishly, generating open looks through ball reversals and drive-and-kick actions rather than isolation play.

Barreiro, by contrast, struggled to find any offensive rhythm. Their half-court sets broke down early in the shot clock, and second-chance points were rare against a Benfica frontcourt that dominated the glass.

Standout Performers

Benfica's backcourt dictated the pace of the game, and their shooting from beyond the arc stretched Barreiro's defence thin. The frontcourt controlled the rebounding battle on both ends, limiting second-chance opportunities while providing a reliable interior scoring option. For Barreiro, there were few bright spots, though their defensive effort never dropped even as the scoreline widened.

What It Means

Winning the Portugal Women's Super Cup in such dominant fashion sends a clear message about Benfica's ambitions this season. For Gdessa Barreiro Women, the defeat is a harsh lesson, but also a benchmark — the gap to the country's elite is measurable, and closing it will require sharper offensive structure against pressure defences.
