Peru U20 Women claimed a commanding 3-0 victory over Egypt U20 Women on 14 July in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship. The South American side controlled the match from start to finish, using efficient defense and a well-balanced attack to keep Egypt under constant pressure.

Peru’s all-around performance

Peru’s setter did an excellent job of spreading the offense, keeping Egypt’s blockers guessing and allowing both the outside hitters and middle blockers to contribute on the scoreboard. The team’s serving also disrupted Egypt’s reception line, which limited the African side’s attempts to run quick middle attacks. Egypt fought hard in the third set, but Peru’s composure in the closing points sealed the clean sweep.

Early momentum for Peru

Winning in straight sets was important for Peru’s confidence, especially given the strength of the tournament field. The result gave Peru a positive start in the pool standings and allowed them to rest some regulars in the late stages.
