Argentina U20 W secured a clean and controlled 3-0 victory over Peru U20 W at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship on 17 July. The South American showdown was one-way traffic for Argentina, who used a strong serving game and consistent blocking to take full command of the match.

Argentina’s supremacy in a South American duel

Right from the opening exchanges, Argentina looked sharper and more organised. They established an early rhythm in attack and kept Peru’s defence scrambling with well-placed shots and varied offensive angles. Argentina’s connection between setter and hitters was particularly effective, creating one-on-one chances that their attackers converted with confidence.

Peru, for their part, battled bravely and showed grit in long rallies, but were unable to develop any sustained run of points. The Peruvian passing unit was tested heavily by Argentina’s float serves, and without a consistent first touch, their hitters were forced into predictable and difficult finishes. Argentina’s block also stood tall throughout, taking away the easy points Peru needed to stay competitive.

Building confidence in the tournament

For Argentina, the straight-set result was an important confidence booster in the U20 World Championship. It demonstrated their ability to close out matches against a familiar continental rival and gave their young squad valuable momentum. Peru, meanwhile, were left with plenty of positives to build on, including stretches of resilient defence, but they will need to sharpen their side-out efficiency in the matches ahead.
