Chelyabinsk produced a composed home performance to defeat Akademiya Kazan 3-1 in the Vysshaya Liga A on October 24, 2026. The hosts won 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, recovering from a second-set slip to take control of the match and close out a valuable four-set victory.

Match Overview

Chelyabinsk opened the match with purpose, taking the first set 25-21 through a combination of strong serving and well-timed blocks. Akademiya Kazan responded in the second set, improving their reception and finding success with their outside hitters to level the score at 25-22. The third set was the turning point: Chelyabinsk raised their intensity at the net and raced to a 25-19 win. The fourth set was tighter, but the home side held their nerve in the closing rallies to secure the match 25-23.

Key Moments

• First set, 18-18: Chelyabinsk won four of the next five points to create separation.
• Second set, 20-18 Kazan: Akademiya capitalized on a brief Chelyabinsk dip to take the set.
• Third set, 12-9 Chelyabinsk: A run of three consecutive blocks gave the hosts a lead they never surrendered.
• Fourth set, 23-23: Chelyabinsk’s outside hitter delivered a clutch kill before a Kazan error ended the match.

Tactical Story

Chelyabinsk’s block-defense system was the difference. Their middle blockers consistently closed the gap on Kazan’s quick attacks, forcing the visitors into predictable high-ball situations. Chelyabinsk’s setter also did an excellent job distributing the offense, keeping Kazan’s block guessing with a balanced mix of middle and pin attacks. Kazan’s serve reception improved in the second set, but they struggled to sustain that level as the match wore on.

Standout Performers

Chelyabinsk’s middle blocker was a dominant presence at the net, contributing both blocks and efficient attacking. The team’s libero also had a strong match, stabilizing the back court during Kazan’s best stretches. For Akademiya Kazan, the opposite hitter was the main attacking threat, but the team lacked the depth to match Chelyabinsk’s balanced scoring.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Chelyabinsk’s position in the Vysshaya Liga A standings and gives them confidence heading into a demanding stretch of the schedule. Akademiya Kazan will take some encouragement from their second-set response but must find more consistency in reception and block coverage to turn competitive sets into victories.
