Chelyabinsk produced a composed 3-1 home victory over Akademiya Kazan in Vysshaya Liga A on October 23, 2026, closing the match with a strong fourth-set finish to claim a full three-point haul.

The Friday evening fixture pitted Chelyabinsk’s home-court energy against an Akademiya Kazan side looking to disrupt rhythm through disciplined blocking and serve-receive patience. Instead, Chelyabinsk controlled the decisive stretches, winning 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22 in a match that was closer than the final margin suggests.

Match overview

Chelyabinsk set the tone early with aggressive serving that pulled Akademiya Kazan out of system. The home side’s first-set 25-21 win came on the back of efficient side-out volleyball and a handful of timely blocks in the middle. Akademiya responded well in the second, tightening their reception and finding angles through the outside hitters to take it 25-22.

The third set proved to be the turning point. Chelyabinsk re-established pressure from the service line, forced Kazan into predictable attacking patterns, and built a lead they never surrendered. A 25-19 scoreline gave the hosts momentum, and they carried that control into a tense fourth set.

Set-by-set story

• Set 1: Chelyabinsk 25-21 — early serving pressure and solid block coverage gave the hosts the lead.
• Set 2: Chelyabinsk 22-25 — Akademiya Kazan improved reception and attacked with more variety.
• Set 3: Chelyabinsk 25-19 — the home side regained control through serve-receive dominance.
• Set 4: Chelyabinsk 25-22 — Chelyabinsk held firm in the closing rallies to seal the match.

Tactical turning point

The contest hinged on Chelyabinsk’s ability to keep Akademiya Kazan away from comfortable first-tempo attacks. By mixing short serves with deeper drives, Chelyabinsk disrupted Kazan’s setter and forced more high-ball situations. In the third and fourth sets, Chelyabinsk’s block began to arrive earlier, turning defence into quick transition points.

Akademiya Kazan showed plenty of resistance, especially in the second set, but they could not sustain the same level of attacking efficiency once Chelyabinsk raised the serve pressure again. The home side also managed errors better in the closing stages, avoiding the loose runs that had briefly let Kazan back into the match.

Standout performers

Chelyabinsk’s opposite hitter was the most reliable outlet in the big moments, consistently scoring from the right side when the home team needed a side-out. The setter’s distribution kept the middle attack involved and created enough one-on-one opportunities for the pin hitters. The libero also delivered a steady performance in reception and floor defence.

For Akademiya Kazan, the outside hitters carried much of the attacking load, and the team’s blocking improved noticeably in the second set. However, the visitors lacked the same attacking balance in the latter stages, allowing Chelyabinsk to load up defensively at the net.

Season impact

The 3-1 win gives Chelyabinsk three valuable points in the Vysshaya Liga A standings and reinforces their home form. For Akademiya Kazan, the result is a missed opportunity to build momentum, though the second-set response showed the team can compete when its reception holds. Chelyabinsk will take confidence from the way they closed out the fourth set, while Kazan will focus on reducing the service-pressure errors that shaped the match.
