Roeselare Women recover to beat Charleroi Women 3-1

Roeselare Women produced a determined comeback to defeat Charleroi Women 3-1 in the Volley League Women on 25 October 2026. Charleroi made the stronger start and took the opening set 25-22, but Roeselare responded with three straight set wins to secure a valuable away victory.

Set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20 in Roeselare’s favour underlined their growing control as the match progressed. The result adds three important points to their league tally and gives them momentum in the Volley League Women standings, while Charleroi are left to reflect on a promising start that slipped away.

Match overview

Charleroi’s opening set was built on energetic serving and a willingness to attack through the middle. They caught Roeselare off balance early and deservedly took the lead. However, Roeselare’s response was swift and emphatic. The visitors improved their reception, increased their serving pressure and began to dominate the net.

From the second set onward, Roeselare looked the more settled side. Their setter found a good balance between the pins and the middle, and their block started to close down Charleroi’s preferred attacking routes. Charleroi continued to fight, but the visitors’ consistency in long rallies proved decisive.

How the sets unfolded

• First set: Charleroi came out aggressively and matched Roeselare in the early exchanges. A late run of points gave the home side the edge, and they took the opener 25-22.
• Second set: Roeselare responded with a much sharper performance. Their serving disrupted Charleroi’s reception, and their block began to take control. The visitors levelled the match with a 25-19 win.
• Third set: Roeselare carried the momentum forward and built an early lead. Charleroi struggled to find rhythm in attack, and the visitors moved ahead with a comfortable 25-17 set.
• Fourth set: Charleroi tried to force a decider, but Roeselare stayed composed. A strong finish in the closing points sealed the match 25-20.

Tactical story: Roeselare’s serving and block take over

The key to Roeselare’s comeback was their ability to raise their serving intensity without sacrificing accuracy. By targeting Charleroi’s outside hitters and mixing in shorter serves, they made it difficult for the home side to run their preferred attack. That pressure allowed Roeselare’s block to set up more effectively and forced Charleroi into more predictable shots.

Roeselare also improved their transition game as the match wore on. Their defence kept rallies alive, and their setter made good decisions under pressure. Charleroi, meanwhile, found it harder to maintain the attacking variety that had served them well in the first set.

Standout performers

Roeselare’s outside hitter was a consistent threat throughout, scoring from both the front and back court. Their setter controlled the tempo well after the first set, while the libero delivered a strong defensive performance. For Charleroi, the middle blocker and captain showed determination, but the team needed more support in attack during the decisive middle sets.

What it means for the Volley League Women table

The 3-1 win gives Roeselare Women three points and reinforces their credentials in the Volley League Women. Coming from behind on the road is a positive sign for their season, and the result will boost confidence ahead of their next fixtures. Charleroi Women will need to build on their first-set performance and find greater consistency if they are to turn promising starts into results.
