Altekma Sweep Gaziantep Genclik in Turkish Cup Straight-Sets Win

Altekma produced a commanding performance in the Turkish Cup on Thursday, October 8, 2026, defeating Gaziantep Genclik 3-0 in a match that started at 21:00 local time. The home side won 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, controlling the contest from the opening serve and advancing in the knockout competition with a straight-sets result. For Gaziantep Genclik, it was a difficult road test against a sharper and more balanced opponent.

The Turkish Cup remains one of the most important national volleyball competitions in Turkey, bringing together clubs from different levels of the domestic pyramid in a single-elimination format. In that environment, momentum and efficiency matter as much as reputation, and Altekma used both to full effect. Their victory was built on aggressive serving, disciplined blocking, and a consistent attack that kept Gaziantep Genclik under pressure throughout the night.

Match Overview

Altekma set the tone early with a strong service game, forcing Gaziantep Genclik into difficult first contacts and limiting the visitors’ ability to run their middle attack. The first set was competitive in the early stages, but Altekma pulled away behind a series of powerful serves and well-timed blocks. Once the home side established a lead, they managed the set calmly and closed it out 25-20.

The second set followed a similar pattern. Altekma’s setter distributed the ball effectively across the net, keeping the middle blockers involved and creating one-on-one opportunities for the outside hitters. Gaziantep Genclik tried to respond with a more aggressive serve, but errors began to accumulate, and Altekma capitalised with a decisive run in the middle of the set. A 25-18 scoreline reflected the home side’s growing control.

Gaziantep Genclik showed more resistance in the third set, briefly taking the lead and forcing Altekma into a few long rallies. However, the home team’s defensive discipline and block coverage proved decisive. Altekma regained the advantage at 14-12 and never surrendered it, finishing the match 25-21 to complete the 3-0 sweep.

Set-by-Set Breakdown

• First set – Altekma 25-20: Altekma’s serve pressured Gaziantep Genclik early, and the home side’s block set up a comfortable finish.
• Second set – Altekma 25-18: A mid-set run broke the visitors’ resistance, with Altekma’s opposite hitter and outside hitters finding gaps in the defence.
• Third set – Altekma 25-21: Gaziantep Genclik fought harder, but Altekma’s composure in the final points sealed the straight-sets victory.

Key Moments

The defining phase of the match came midway through the second set. With Altekma leading 13-11, the home side produced a four-point burst that included two blocks and an ace, pushing the margin to 17-11. That run effectively ended Gaziantep Genclik’s hopes of building momentum before the third set. In the final set, the visitors briefly led 8-6, but Altekma responded immediately with a 5-1 run of their own, turning defence into quick transition points and regaining full control.

Altekma’s serving was a constant theme. Even when Gaziantep Genclik managed to side-out, the visitors rarely stringed together multiple points. The home side’s ability to score in transition, especially through the middle, kept the pressure on and prevented any extended comeback attempt.

Tactical Story

Altekma’s tactical approach was clear: serve aggressively, neutralise Gaziantep Genclik’s first tempo, and attack with variety. The home setter used the middle blockers effectively to stretch the opposing block, which in turn created space for the pin hitters. Defensively, Altekma’s libero and wing players covered the court well, turning several difficult digs into counterattacking opportunities.

Gaziantep Genclik struggled to establish their own rhythm. Their reception was inconsistent under pressure, and when they did manage to set up their attack, Altekma’s block was often waiting. The visitors had brief spells of quality, particularly in the third set, but they could not sustain that level long enough to seriously threaten the home side. In a knockout cup match, that inconsistency proved costly.

Standout Performers

Altekma’s opposite hitter led the team with a match-high 16 points, combining powerful attacks from the right side with important contributions at the service line. The captain added 12 points, including several crucial kills in the third set when Gaziantep Genclik was still within touching distance. Altekma’s middle blockers also made their presence felt, controlling the net and forcing the visitors into predictable attacking patterns.

For Gaziantep Genclik, the opposite hitter was the most persistent threat, finishing with a team-high 11 points. The set
