The Turkish Cup delivered a five-set thriller as Alanya Bld edged Istanbul BB 3-2 in a match that swung one way and then the other before the hosts finally sealed it in a tense deciding set. It was the kind of cup tie that keeps neutrals glued to the screen: high-quality volleyball, momentum shifts, and a finish that came down to a handful of points.

Match Overview: Alanya Bld 3-2 Istanbul BB

Alanya Bld came into the contest with home advantage and used it early, controlling the opening exchanges through disciplined serving and a well-organised block. Istanbul BB responded like a team with real cup pedigree, adjusting their attack and fighting back to level the match. From there, the two sides traded blows across five sets, with neither able to land a decisive blow until the final stretch.

The hosts ultimately claimed the win 3-2, a result that sends them through in the Turkish Cup at the expense of a determined Istanbul BB side that pushed them all the way. The margins were razor-thin, and the scoreline rightly reflects just how even the contest was.

Key Moments

• Fast start for Alanya Bld: The hosts opened with a clear advantage, riding an early serving run and converting defence into points to take control of the first set.
• Istanbul BB's response: Rather than folding, the visitors reset, improved their reception, and levelled the match with a composed, aggressive display.
• Swing set in the middle: A marathon set filled with long rallies went the way of the home side after a pair of clutch blocks at the net — a momentum shift that proved crucial.
• Istanbul BB refuse to yield: Backs to the wall, the visitors forced a fifth set with sharp serving and patient attacking, keeping the tie alive.
• Deciding-set finish: In the final set, Alanya Bld found one last gear, stringing together the points that mattered and closing out the win on home soil.

Tactical Story

This was a cup tie decided by adjustments. Alanya Bld's initial success came from aggressive serving that disrupted Istanbul BB's first-ball rhythm and allowed their block to set up shop at the net. When the visitors began passing better, however, the match transformed into a genuine arm-wrestle.

Istanbul BB's coaching response was noticeable: they varied their attack patterns, used the middle more effectively, and found ways to score through the pipe and from the back row. That variety kept Alanya's block honest and dragged the hosts into longer rallies. For stretches, Istanbul looked the better side in transition.

Alanya Bld's edge, in the end, came down to composure at the highest-leverage moments. Their serving remained brave deep into the fifth set, and their blocking held firm when the tie was on the line. In cup volleyball, where a single sequence can decide an entire campaign, that ability to execute under pressure is invaluable.

Standout Performances

Alanya Bld's opposite hitter was central to their success, delivering in the clutch phases and giving the team a reliable outlet when sets became tight. Their setter managed the offence intelligently, spreading the ball across the front court and trusting the middles in key moments. The libero's defensive work also stood out, extending rallies that the hosts eventually turned into points.

For Istanbul BB, the performance was full of positives despite the defeat. Their outside attackers carried a heavy load and produced consistently, while the middle blockers delivered crucial stops when the visitors clawed their way back into the match. It was a display that will earn respect even as the team exits the competition.

Season and Cup Impact

Advancing in the Turkish Cup gives Alanya Bld more than just a result — it builds belief. Winning a five-setter against a strong opponent strengthens squad confidence and demonstrates that the team can handle knockout pressure. That experience tends to carry over into league form as well.

For Istanbul BB, the exit will be disappointing, but the manner of the performance softens the blow. Pushing a quality side to five sets away from home shows the squad is competitive, and the lessons from this tie — particularly around closing out tight sets — can be applied immediately in their domestic fixtures.

What's Next

Alanya Bld now look ahead to the next round of the Turkish Cup, knowing they will need the same level of execution and composure if they are to continue their run. Istanbul BB return to their league schedule with a point to prove, determined to turn narrow cup defeat into a run of stronger results.
