Match overview

The final scoreline read Norwid Czestochowa 3-2 Rzeszow, with the hosts taking the decisive fifth set after Rzeszow had forced a decider. The set pattern reflected how evenly matched the sides were for long stretches.

• Set 1: Norwid Czestochowa 25-22
• Set 2: Rzeszow 25-23
• Set 3: Norwid Czestochowa 25-20
• Set 4: Rzeszow 25-22
• Set 5: Norwid Czestochowa 15-12

Key moments

Norwid started with purpose, using the home crowd to fuel an aggressive serving run that disrupted Rzeszow’s first-ball rhythm. The opener was tight deep into the 20s, but the hosts found the better side of the closing points to take it 25-22.

Rzeszow responded in the second set with a more patient approach in transition. The visitors extended rallies, forced Norwid into uncomfortable out-of-system swings, and levelled the match with a 25-23 win. That set changed the temperature of the contest: neither side could dictate terms for long.

The third set was Norwid’s most complete stretch. A mid-set block-and-defence sequence gave the hosts a cushion, and they carried that advantage to 25-20. Rzeszow, however, refused to fade. The visitors produced their best serving passage of the night in the fourth set, pushing the match to a tie-break and silencing the home support for long spells.

In the fifth, Norwid regained control at the net. With the score level in the early exchanges, the hosts won a crucial long rally and followed it with a block that tilted the decider. Rzeszow saved one match point, but Norwid closed it out 15-12 to seal the 3-2 victory.

Tactical story

The match was decided by small margins in serve-reception and transition. Norwid’s serving was more assertive in the first and third sets, while Rzeszow’s best spells came when the visitors managed to keep the ball in play and force extra swings. Norwid’s block defence improved as the night wore on, especially in the fifth set, when the home side finally managed to slow Rzeszow’s outside attack.

Rzeszow will point to their response after losing the opening set and again after falling behind 2-1. Their ability to extend the match into a decider showed resilience, but the visitors were unable to maintain their serving pressure in the final set. Norwid’s composure in the closing rallies was the difference.

Standout performers

Norwid’s opposite hitter carried a heavy scoring load, particularly in the third and fifth sets, and was the focal point when the hosts needed a side-out. The home captain also delivered several important plays in transition, while the libero kept a number of difficult balls alive in the decisive set.

For Rzeszow, the middle blocker was a consistent presence at the net and helped the visitors stay in the match with timely blocks. The setter varied the attack well in the second and fourth sets, but Rzeszow’s reception struggled under pressure late in the tie-break.

League impact

The 3-2 win gives Norwid Czestochowa two points in the TAURON Liga standings, while Rzeszow take one point from the defeat. In a league where every point can matter in the race for playoff positioning, the hosts will value both the result and the character shown in the fifth set. Rzeszow leave with a narrow loss but a performance that suggests they will remain competitive in the coming rounds.
