Belchatow Edge Verva Warszawa in Five-Set TAURON Liga Thriller

Belchatow opened their TAURON Liga campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Verva Warszawa on 25 October 2026, prevailing 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 in a match that swung repeatedly and kept the crowd engaged until the final rally. The home side showed composure in the decisive fifth set, turning a tight contest into an important early-season victory.

Verva Warszawa will feel they had chances to steal the match, particularly after forcing a decider, but Belchatow’s blocking and serving held up when it mattered most. The result gives Belchatow two points for the five-set win, while Verva take one point from a battling away performance.

Match Overview

Belchatow started brightly, using the energy of the home crowd to build an early advantage. Their serve was aggressive from the first point, and Verva’s reception struggled to find rhythm. The first set went Belchatow’s way, but Verva responded in the second by tightening their defence and finding more success through the middle.

The match settled into a pattern of momentum shifts. Belchatow’s block was the difference in the third set, while Verva’s serving improved in the fourth to force a fifth. The decider was tense, but Belchatow found an extra gear at 8-7, scoring four of the next five points to take control.

Key Moments

In the first set, Belchatow broke away from 18-18 with a 5-1 run, capped by a thunderous block from Kacper Szymański. The second set was a different story: Verva led 20-18 and held off a late Belchatow charge, levelling the match with a smart tip from Jakub Nowak.

The third set turned on a remarkable defensive sequence at 15-14. Belchatow’s libero kept two difficult balls alive, and the home side eventually converted through Mateusz Bąk to spark a 4-0 run. In the fourth, Verva refused to fold, saving two match points before forcing a decider. The fifth set was decided by Belchatow’s serving: aace and a block gave them a 12-9 lead, and they closed it out 15-12.

Tactical Story

Belchatow’s tactical approach centred on serving Verva’s outside hitters and forcing them into predictable attacks. The home block was well organised, with Szymański and the middle blockers closing the line and forcing Verva’s hitters to go cross-court into the waiting defence. Belchatow’s setter, Michał Kaczmarek, also did well to involve the middle attack early, keeping Verva’s block honest.

Verva’s best spells came when they managed to get their own serve going. Their float serves caused problems for Belchatow’s reception in the second and fourth sets, and their opposite hitter found success from the right side. However, Verva’s error count rose in the decisive moments, and Belchatow’s block-defence system proved more reliable under pressure.

Standout Players

Mateusz Bąk was Belchatow’s go-to scorer, finishing with 26 points. He carried a heavy attacking load, especially in the fifth set, and delivered several crucial kills from the back row. Kacper Szymański added five blocks and a handful of momentum-changing points, while Kaczmarek finished with 52 assists.

For Verva Warszawa, Jakub Nowak led the scoring with 22 points and Patryk Zieliński added 18. Their setter kept the offence varied, but Verva will rue a few missed serves and attacking errors at the tail end of sets.

Season Impact

The win gives Belchatow an early foothold in the TAURON Liga table and sets a positive tone for the weeks ahead. Verva Warszawa leave with a point and plenty of encouragement, but also with a clear lesson about closing out tight sets. Both teams look capable of competing in the upper half of the league, and this five-set battle may be remembered as one of the early highlights of the season.
