Avarca de Menorca Women produced a composed road performance to defeat Haro Rioja Women 3-1 in the Superliga Women on 25 October 2026. The visitors recovered from dropping the second set to win 22-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 21-25, earning three points with a balanced attacking display and a strong finish in the fourth set.

Match overview

Haro Rioja began brightly in front of their home support, but Avarca de Menorca gradually found their range from the service line and took control of the match. The opening set went to the visitors, 25-22, before Haro responded with a 25-20 second set. The third and fourth sets followed a similar pattern: Haro stayed close early, but Menorca’s blocking and transition play created separation at the decisive moments.

Key moments

The second set was Haro’s best spell. Their reception improved, the setter found the middle more often, and the home crowd lifted the team through a strong finish. However, Menorca answered immediately after the break. A run of precise serves in the third set pushed the visitors ahead, and in the fourth they held their nerve after Haro cut the gap to two points. A late block and a well-placed back-row attack sealed the result for Avarca de Menorca.

Tactical story

Menorca’s win was built on balance. Their outside hitters attacked with variety, the middle blockers provided enough of a threat to keep Haro’s defence honest, and the setter distributed well under pressure. Haro Rioja had spells of control, especially when their serve disrupted Menorca’s first pass, but they struggled to contain the visitors once the rally extended. Menorca’s floor defence also improved as the match wore on, turning several seemingly lost points into counter-attacking opportunities.

Standout performers

Avarca de Menorca’s opposite hitter delivered key points in the third and fourth sets, while the team’s libero was central to their defensive resilience. Haro Rioja’s captain led by example with a series of important attacks, and their middle blocker gave the home side a useful presence at the net, but the team could not maintain that level through the closing stages.

What it means

The result gives Avarca de Menorca an important away win and strengthens their position in the Superliga Women table. For Haro Rioja, the match showed flashes of quality but also highlighted the need for greater consistency in serve reception and end-of-set execution. A 1-3 home defeat is a setback, but the performance offered enough positives to suggest they can respond in the coming rounds.
