Pirin Razlog secured a convincing 3-0 away victory over Levski Sofia in the SuperLiga on 25 October, producing a disciplined performance in the clutch moments to take all three points from a competitive contest.

The visitors won 25-20, 25-22, 25-21, a scoreline that flattered them only slightly: Levski stayed close for long periods, but Pirin Razlog were sharper at the end of each set and consistently found the big plays when the score tightened. The result gives Pirin an important early-season boost and leaves Levski searching for greater consistency in serve-receive.

Match overview

Levski Sofia started with good energy and matched Pirin for much of the first set, but the visitors’ block began to assert itself midway through. Pirin’s serving also improved as the match progressed, reducing Levski’s options in attack and forcing more predictable swings. Levski had their chances, particularly in the second set, but they could not string together enough points when it mattered most.

• Set 1: Pirin Razlog 25-20
• Set 2: Pirin Razlog 25-22
• Set 3: Pirin Razlog 25-21

Key moments

The first set was tied at 19-19 before Pirin Razlog won four of the next five points, including a crucial block on Levski’s opposite hitter. That late surge set the tone for the match. In the second set, Levski led 18-16 and looked capable of levelling the contest, but Pirin responded with a 6-2 run powered by two aces and a transition kill from the right side.

The third set followed a similar pattern. Levski moved ahead 12-9, but Pirin gradually reeled them in and then pulled away with an 8-3 run. The visitors’ defence held firm in the final rallies, and a sharp cross-court kill sealed the straight-sets win.

Tactical story

Pirin Razlog’s victory was built on serve and block. Their servers targeted Levski’s outside hitters, making it difficult for the home side to run a balanced attack. That allowed Pirin’s middle blockers to stay disciplined and close the block, while the back-row defence picked up several deflected balls. Levski’s reception struggled under pressure, and their transition game never found the rhythm needed to sustain a comeback.

Standout performers

Georgi Petrov led Pirin Razlog with 17 points, including four aces and a series of important kills in the second and third sets. Ivan Dimitrov added 12 points and controlled the net with three blocks, while libero Nikolay Todorov produced a steady performance in defence. For Levski Sofia, Martin Stoyanov top-scored with 13 points and fought hard throughout, but the home side needed more from their serving and block to disrupt Pirin’s control.

Season impact

The three points give Pirin Razlog early momentum in the SuperLiga and a useful road win that will boost confidence. Levski Sofia will need to address their reception and sideout consistency quickly, but the match also showed that they can compete with strong opposition for long stretches. Pirin’s ability to close sets under pressure was the decisive difference.
