• Result: Milano 3-2 Cuneo Volley
• Set scores: 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12
• Competition: SuperLega
• Key theme: Milano’s resilience in the decisive moments

How the match unfolded

Milano started well, taking a tight first set 25-23 after a late run of strong serves. The hosts looked sharper in transition, and their opposite hitter found success against Cuneo’s block. Cuneo responded in the second set, improving their reception and using the middle attack more effectively to level the match at 22-25.

The third set belonged to Milano. Their block began to have a bigger impact, and Cuneo’s attack became more one-dimensional as the set progressed. Milano built a comfortable lead and closed it 25-20. But Cuneo refused to fade. In the fourth set, they raised their serving pressure and forced Milano into several difficult side-out situations. The visitors edged a close set 23-25 to send the match to a tiebreak.

The fifth set was a test of nerves. Milano jumped ahead early and managed to keep Cuneo at arm’s length. Cuneo saved one match point with a brave attack, but Milano closed the door on the next opportunity, taking the tiebreak 15-12.

Tactical story

Milano’s ability to vary their attack was important. When Cuneo’s block started to load up on the outside hitters, Milano’s setter used the middle and the back-row attack to keep the offense balanced. The hosts also improved their serve in the third and fifth sets, making it harder for Cuneo to run their first tempo.

Cuneo’s fighting spirit was evident, especially in the fourth set. Their service game gave them a route back into the match, and their block produced several crucial points. In the end, however, they could not maintain that level in the tiebreak, where Milano’s efficiency and experience made the difference.

Standout performers

Milano’s opposite hitter was the focal point of the attack and delivered in the biggest moments, particularly in the first and fifth sets. The middle blocker also made a significant impact with timely blocks and quick attacks. For Cuneo, the outside hitters carried much of the scoring load, while the libero kept the team alive with several impressive defensive plays.

Standings impact

Milano took two points from the five-set win, while Cuneo earned one for forcing a tiebreak. In a league where every point matters, that single point could prove valuable for Cuneo later in the season. Milano will be pleased with the result but will want to reduce the swings in momentum that allowed Cuneo back into the match.
