Zenit St. Petersburg vs Novosibirsk: Novosibirsk Claim 3-1 Road Win in Superleague

Novosibirsk produced a strong away performance in the Superleague, defeating Zenit St. Petersburg 3-1 on 26 October 2026. After dropping the opening set, the visitors responded with three consecutive set wins, taking the match 22-25? No, let’s correct that: Zenit won the first set 25-22 before Novosibirsk replied 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21 to secure a 3-1 victory.

The result is a significant one in the Superleague standings, giving Novosibirsk a valuable road success against one of the league’s recognised contenders. Zenit started brightly but could not maintain their advantage once Novosibirsk found their serving rhythm and defensive structure.

Match Overview

Zenit St. Petersburg began the match with good energy and took the first set 25-22. Their serve was aggressive, and their block caused problems for Novosibirsk’s first-tempo attack. However, the visitors adjusted quickly. Novosibirsk improved their reception and began to use the middle more effectively, levelling the match with a 25-20 second-set win.

The third set was the tightest of the contest. Both teams traded points deep into the set, but Novosibirsk found the better attacking solutions in the closing rallies and edged it 25-23. That set proved to be the turning point. In the fourth set, Novosibirsk maintained their composure and closed out the match 25-21, securing a 3-1 away victory.

Key Moments

• Zenit’s fast start: The hosts took the opening set 25-22 behind strong serving and an effective block.
• Novosibirsk’s adjustment: A improved reception in the second set helped the visitors level the match at 25-20.
• The pivotal third set: Novosibirsk won the key points late in a 25-23 set to take a 2-1 lead.
• Closing strength: The visitors kept Zenit at arm’s length in the fourth set and finished the job 25-21.

Tactical Story

Novosibirsk’s comeback was built on serve-receive stability and better transition play. After the first set, they reduced their unforced errors and forced Zenit into more predictable attacking patterns. Their block began to line up more effectively against Zenit’s outside hitters, and their defence gave the team repeated chances to score in transition.

Zenit’s best volleyball came in the opening set, when their serve put Novosibirsk under pressure and their block controlled the net. As the match progressed, however, the hosts struggled to sustain that level. Novosibirsk’s setter distributed the ball well, keeping the middle involved and creating one-on-one opportunities for the pins. That balance was the difference in the final three sets.

Standout Performers

Novosibirsk’s opposite hitter delivered a strong performance, especially in the third and fourth sets, when the visitors needed terminal points. Their middle blockers also made an impact with timely blocks and quick attacks, while the libero helped stabilise the back court during Zenit’s stronger serving runs.

For Zenit St. Petersburg, the captain and outside hitter carried much of the attacking responsibility and produced several important points in the first set. The hosts’ middle blocker was effective at times, but Zenit could not generate enough consistent pressure once Novosibirsk improved their reception.

Season Impact

This 3-1 win gives Novosibirsk an important three points in the Superleague and strengthens their position in the upper part of the table. Road victories against direct rivals are often decisive in shaping the playoff race, and this performance showed that Novosibirsk can adapt after a slow start.

Zenit St. Petersburg will be disappointed to lose at home after taking the first set, but the match offered clear lessons. Their challenge will be to maintain serving pressure and blocking discipline for longer stretches. Novosibirsk, meanwhile, will look to build on a result that underlined their tactical flexibility and composure in close sets.
