WVC Dynamo Moscow delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, sweeping Yaroslavl 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) in a Superleague match that underlined their title credentials.

Match Overview

Dynamo controlled from the opening whistle, racing to an 8-3 lead in the first set and never looking back. Yaroslavl improved as the match progressed, but they could not match Dynamo’s firepower or serving efficiency. The second set was tighter, with Yaroslavl briefly taking a 14-12 lead, but Dynamo responded with a 6-0 run to reclaim control. The third set followed a similar pattern, with Dynamo pulling away late to complete the clean sweep.

Key Moments

The decisive moment came midway through the second set when Dynamo opposite Viktor Poletaev produced three consecutive aces to turn a two-point deficit into a four-point lead. That burst visibly deflated Yaroslavl, who never seriously threatened thereafter. In the third set, a spectacular running attack from outside hitter Yaroslav Podlesnykh gave Dynamo a 22-19 cushion, and they closed it out with calm efficiency.

Tactical Story

Dynamo’s serve was the difference, registering nine aces and constantly forcing Yaroslavl into scrambled offense. Setter Pavel Pankov distributed the ball brilliantly, keeping all front-row attackers involved and preventing Yaroslavl’s block from settling. Defensively, Dynamo’s floor defense was equally impressive, with libero Evgeny Baranov repeatedly denying Yaroslavl’s attempts to find open court.

Standout Players

Poletaev finished with 18 points, including five aces, while Podlesnykh added 12 points and was efficient in transition. Middle blocker Ilyas Kurkaev contributed four blocks and provided a consistent presence at the net. For Yaroslavl, captain Alexander Khripun tried to rally his side with 11 points, but support was limited.

Season Impact

The straight-sets win sends a clear message to the rest of the Superleague: Dynamo Moscow are serious contenders. They sit near the top of the early standings and look increasingly cohesive. Yaroslavl will need to regroup quickly, particularly in reception, if they are to challenge for a playoff spot.
