The fifth set was tight throughout, but Novokuybyshevsk moved ahead at 12-10 and held their nerve, sealing the win with a transition kill after a long rally.

Key Moments

• First-set finish: At 23-23, Novokuybyshevsk produced a block and an aggressive serve to take the opener.
• Belgorod’s fourth-set response: A serving run helped the visitors force a deciding set and silence the home crowd briefly.
• Tiebreak turning point: Leading 11-10, Novokuybyshevsk won a crucial defensive rally and followed it with a sharp attack to create breathing room.

Tactical Story

Novokuybyshevsk’s approach relied on aggressive serving and a block that could contain Belgorod’s outside attack. When their serve was on target, they were able to control the tempo and force Belgorod into predictable swings. Belgorod’s counter was a more varied attack, especially when their setter used the middle to pull the block away from the wings.

The match was decided in the small details: reception quality, error management and transition execution. Novokuybyshevsk were more efficient in the closing points of the first, third and fifth sets, while Belgorod’s best spells came when they stretched rallies and forced the home side into rushed attacks. The tiebreak ultimately came down to which team could sideout more cleanly under pressure.

Standout Performers

Novokuybyshevsk’s opposite hitter led all scorers with 25 points, including several decisive finishes in the fifth set. Their outside hitter added 19 points and was important in serve-receive, while the middle blockers contributed key blocks at crucial moments. Belgorod’s opposite finished with 22 points, and their libero produced a number of impressive defensive plays, but the visitors could not quite close the match.

Season Impact

The five-set win is a significant early-season result for Novokuybyshevsk, giving them momentum in the Superleague standings and a hard-fought head-to-head victory. Belgorod leave with a point, but the loss will sting after they forced a decider. Both teams will focus on consistency in serve-receive and late-set execution as the Superleague season progresses.
