Zhytychi Zhytomyr produced one of the most authoritative road performances of the 2020 Ukrainian Cup campaign, sweeping Reshetylivka 3-0 away from home on 2 March 2020. The result sent a clear message to the rest of the competition as the cup knockout stage heated up.

Cup Clash Control

Playing under the bright lights of the Ukrainian Cup, Zhytychi Zhytomyr came into the fixture with a clear game plan and executed it almost perfectly. From the first whistle, they imposed their physicality at the net and kept Reshetylivka’s blockers guessing with a varied offensive attack. The home side fought hard in each set, but the gulf in consistency and composure proved decisive.

Zhytychi’s serve and pass game clicked throughout, allowing their offense to run smoothly in transition. On the other side of the ball, their defensive system dug out several saves that frustrated the Reshetylivka attackers and repeatedly turned defense into immediate scoring chances. The visitors built early leads in each set and never allowed their hosts to truly threaten a comeback.

Key Elements of the Victory

• Domination at the net: Zhytychi recorded a significant advantage in blocks, controlling the decisive rallies.
• Efficient transition offense: Quick sets after defensive plays kept Reshetylivka’s block off balance.
• Calm under pressure: Throughout the match, Zhytychi maintained a composed, professional approach that their opponents could not match.

What the Result Means

For Zhytychi Zhytomyr, the clean sweep represented the ideal way to navigate a potentially tricky cup tie. It demonstrated their ability to travel, control a match from start to finish, and produce their best volleyball when it mattered most. Reshetylivka, meanwhile, could take pride in the effort but were ultimately left to reflect on missed opportunities in a competition where small margins often decide the outcome.

With the Ukrainian Cup progressing and knockout rounds looming, Zhytychi’s commanding display placed them firmly in the conversation as one of the teams to watch.
