Imoco Volley Conegliano Women delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Chieri '76 Women in the Coppa Italia A1 semifinal on January 30, 2020, demonstrating exactly why they were the team to beat in Italian women's volleyball. Playing at 03:30 CET, the match ended in straight sets, but the scoreline does not tell the full story of Conegliano's suffocating dominance from start to finish.

Match Overview

Facing a Chieri side that had already upset higher-ranked teams in the tournament, Imoco needed no reminders of the dangers of underestimating an opponent. But from the opening whistle, the Pantere (Panthers) imposed their will, blending powerful serving with relentless blocking to dismantle Chieri's offensive structure. The final set scores reflected the gulf in experience and firepower, as Conegliano cruised into the Coppa Italia final with one of its most complete displays of the season.

Key Moments and Tactical Story

Conegliano's serving unit set the tone immediately, forcing Chieri's reception into difficult positions and allowing the home team's block to feast on predictable sets. Chieri had no answer to the combination of Paola Egonu's hammering attacks and the mid-court control of the Conegliano setter, who varied the tempo beautifully between the pins and the middle.

In the second set, Chieri attempted to regroup and managed to keep the scoreboard close until 15-15. That was the moment Egonu stepped forward, delivering a series of unanswerable attacks and a clutch ace that broke the resistance. From there, Conegliano rolled through the third set, with coach Davide Santarelli giving extended playing time to his bench as the final part of the contest turned into a showcase of the team's depth.

Standout Performers

• Paola Egonu: The Italian superstar led all scorers with another display of raw power and precision from the right side, finishing with a match-high kill count and several momentum-shifting aces.
• Conegliano's Middle Blockers: Dominant at the net throughout, they limited Chieri's middle offence and turned defensive touches into fast counterattacks.
• Chieri's Libero: Despite the loss, the Chieri defensive specialist made several outstanding saves, but her team simply could not sustain enough scoring windows.

What This Result Means

The clean 3-0 sweep carried Imoco into the Coppa Italia A1 final, continuing a season in which they were rewriting records across Italian volleyball. For Chieri '76, the semifinal exit was a bitter end to a memorable cup run, but their appearance in the final four underlined the club's rise as one of Italy's most competitive sides.

Conegliano's victory also served as a warning to their domestic rivals: when their full roster is firing, they are nearly untouchable. The Coppa Italia crown would later join their league collection, cementing this Imoco team as one of the great squads of the modern Italian volleyball era.
