Set-by-Set Story

First set (25–22 Nilüfer): The home side came out firing. Aggressive serving and a well-organised block frustrated Eczacıbaşı's star attackers, and Nilüfer converted their chances with real conviction. A late three-point run at 22–22 gave them a deserved opening set.

Second set (25–21 Eczacıbaşı): The visitors responded like champions. Their reception stabilised, allowing the setter to use the middle far more effectively, and the resulting one-on-one situations on the wings proved impossible for Nilüfer to defend. Eczacıbaşı levelled with a controlled, professional set.

Third set (25–23 Nilüfer): Back came the hosts, and the atmosphere lifted with them. This was the tightest set of the night, decided by two enormous blocks at 23–23. Nilüfer's bench erupted, and suddenly Eczacıbaşı were staring at a genuine defeat.

Fourth set (25–20 Eczacıbaşı): Experience showed. Eczacıbaşı cut down their error count dramatically, tightened their defensive shape and took control of the long rallies. Nilüfer, who had won so many of those exchanges earlier, began to fade physically, and the visitors forced a decider.

Tie-break (15–11 Eczacıbaşı): The fifth set was decided by serving. Eczacıbaşı produced three aces in the closing stages, breaking Nilüfer's reception and taking the match away from them. The home side fought to the end, but the visitors' composure under pressure was the difference.

Key Moments

Nilüfer's two blocks at 23–23 in the third set looked like the moment the match would turn permanently. Instead, Eczacıbaşı's response in set four — a drastic reduction in unforced errors — reset the contest. The decisive passage came at 10–9 in the tie-break, when a service run of three points swung the match for good.

Standout Performances

Eczacıbaşı's opposite hitter was the game's most reliable scorer, particularly in the fourth set and tie-break, while their libero's defensive work in the closing stages kept crucial rallies alive. Nilüfer's outside hitters deserve enormous credit for the way they attacked a world-class block, and their setter's distribution was inventive throughout — a performance that will give the squad real belief for the rest of the season.

What It Means

Two points won away from home is a solid outcome for Eczacıbaşı in the Sultanlar Ligi Women table, even if the performance will give the coaching staff plenty to review. For Nilüfer, the defeat stings, but pushing one of Europe's strongest clubs to five sets is evidence of genuine progress. On this showing, they will trouble plenty of teams at home this season.
