Vakifbank Women made light work of their trip to Goztepe Women, winning 3-0 in the Sultanlar Ligi Women on October 11, 2026. The visitors were never seriously threatened, taking the match 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 in a display that showcased the depth and defensive quality that has defined the club's recent era.

Match Overview

Away fixtures in the Turkish top flight are rarely straightforward, and Goztepe arrived with genuine home support and the energy that comes with it. It made little difference against a Vakifbank side that controlled first contact throughout, ran its offence at pace, and defended at a level that repeatedly frustrated the home attackers. The first and third sets were competitive for long stretches; the second was one-way traffic.

Key Moments

• First set: Goztepe led 13-11 and the home crowd was fully engaged. Vakifbank answered with a 6-1 run built on two aces and a block, and never trailed again in the set.
• Second set: A dominant Vakifbank passage from 8-7 to 19-11 effectively ended the set as a contest, with the visitors' serve and block working in tandem.
• Third set: Goztepe produced a spirited fightback from 18-13 down to close within 23-22, but Vakifbank closed with a clean side-out and a transition kill.

Tactical Story

Vakifbank's performance was built on balance rather than any single dominant element. Their reception was steady, which allowed the setter to involve the middles early and stretch Goztepe's block horizontally. Once the middle was established, the wings found space, and the visitors' attack percentage climbed accordingly.

Defensively, Vakifbank's block timing was excellent. Rather than chasing every swing, they held their positions and let Goztepe hit into organised hands, then converted the resulting deflections into counter-attacks. The home side's best moments came when they served aggressively and pushed Vakifbank into long out-of-system rallies — a blueprint they will want to extend over a full match next time.

Standout Performers

Vakifbank's outside hitters shared the scoring load evenly, a sign of a well-functioning system rather than a reliance on one player. The setter controlled the tempo throughout and made smart choices in the closing stages of the first and third sets. The libero was outstanding, keeping several difficult balls alive in the tight opening set. For Goztepe, the opposite hitter fought hard for points and the middle blockers produced a couple of crucial stops in the third set, but the team's serving consistency dipped at the worst moments.

Season Impact

Three points and a clean set ratio on the road is a strong return for a side with title ambitions. Vakifbank keep pace at the top of the standings and, just as importantly, keep their squad fresh — the absence of a fourth set matters in a season with a congested calendar. Goztepe, meanwhile, showed enough in the first and third sets to suggest they can trouble mid-table rivals at home, provided they cut down on the unforced errors that undid their best spells.

What's Next

Vakifbank continue their schedule with the confidence of a settled rotation, while Goztepe head back to the training hall with a clear focus: sustaining serving pressure and finding more consistent production from the outside positions. In the Sultanlar Ligi, that improvement is often the difference between a narrow defeat and a home win.
