Melendugno Women produced a controlled and confident home performance on 18 October 2026, defeating Imola Women 3-0 in a Serie A2 Women match that underlined the hosts’ quality in serve, block and transition. The straight-sets win gave Melendugno three valuable points and left Imola searching for answers after a difficult evening on the road.

Match overview

Melendugno won the match in straight sets, taking the opening set 25-21 before accelerating to a 25-18 second-set success. The third set was closer, but the hosts maintained their composure down the stretch to close it 25-22 and complete a 3-0 victory. The scoreline reflected Melendugno’s ability to control long rallies and turn defensive stops into quick transition points.

Imola stayed competitive in patches, particularly in the first and third sets, but the visitors struggled to sustain pressure from the service line. Melendugno’s block-defense system gave the home side a clear edge, and the crowd at the Melendugno home court responded to a performance full of energy and discipline.

Key moments

• First set: Melendugno broke away in the middle phase, using aggressive serving to disrupt Imola’s reception and build a lead they protected at 25-21.
• Second set: The hosts raised their level further, dominating at the net and pulling away to 25-18 for a two-set cushion.
• Third set: Imola improved their block and kept the score tight, but Melendugno found the decisive points late to seal the sweep at 25-22.

Tactical story

The match was shaped by Melendugno’s serve pressure. The home side consistently targeted Imola’s reception lines, forcing the visitors into predictable attacking patterns. That allowed Melendugno’s middle blockers to read the game and form a solid block, while the back-row defense cleaned up the rebounds.

In transition, Melendugno looked sharp. The setter distributed the ball well, mixing quick attacks through the middle with pins from the wings. Imola’s defensive effort was commendable at times, especially from the libero, but the visitors lacked the same consistency in attack and gave away too many free points with unforced errors.

Standout performers

Melendugno’s attacking unit shared the load effectively, with the outside hitters finding angles and the middle blockers creating pressure at the net. The home setter controlled the tempo, and the serving strategy kept Imola off balance throughout the evening. For Imola, the libero was among the most active performers, extending rallies and keeping the visitors within touching distance in the tighter sets.

Serie A2 Women standings and season impact

The 3-0 result adds three important points to Melendugno’s Serie A2 Women tally and strengthens their position heading into the next round. A straight-sets win also provides a confidence boost, particularly with the team showing balance across attack, block and serve.

For Imola Women, the defeat is a reminder of how demanding the Serie A2 Women schedule can be. The visitors will need to improve their reception consistency and reduce errors if they are to climb the standings in the coming weeks. Melendugno, meanwhile, will look to carry this momentum forward.
