Costa Volpino Women claimed a solid away victory in Serie A2 Women, defeating Futura Volley Giovani Women 1-3 on Sunday night. After dropping a tight second set, the visitors reasserted control and finished the match strongly to take all three points.

Match Overview

The match, played on 18 October 2026, saw the home side compete well in patches but struggle to sustain their level across four sets. Costa Volpino's serving and blocking gave them the edge in the key phases, and the visitors closed out the contest with authority. The set scores were 21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 20-25.

How the Match Unfolded

Costa Volpino started sharply, taking control of the first set through aggressive serving and some well-timed blocks. Futura Volley Giovani fought back into the set midway through, but the visitors held their advantage to close it 21-25.

The second set was the hosts' best spell of the match. With their reception stabilising and their outside hitters finding the floor with increasing regularity, Futura Volley built a narrow lead and held it under pressure, taking the set 25-22 to level the match and energise the home crowd.

That momentum, however, did not carry over. Costa Volpino re-established their serving pressure in the third set and pulled away through the middle phase, taking it 18-25 and restoring their advantage. The fourth set was more competitive early, but the visitors' block tightened and their transition attack proved too efficient. At 20-25, the match was over.

Tactical Story

The decisive factor was the visitors' ability to disrupt Futura Volley's first-ball attack. When the home side passed cleanly, they were more than competitive — the second set proved that. But Costa Volpino's servers consistently targeted the seams, forcing predictable sets and allowing their block to load up on the wings.

In transition, Costa Volpino were also sharper. Their back-row defence turned several seemingly lost rallies into counter-attacking opportunities, and those extra points proved decisive in the third and fourth sets.

Standout Performers

• Costa Volpino's wing hitters carried the attacking load with consistency across all four sets.
• The visitors' middle blockers made an impact at the net, particularly during the decisive runs in sets three and four.
• Futura Volley's outside hitter produced the hosts' most consistent offensive output, especially during the second-set revival.

What It Means for the Season

For Costa Volpino, this is a valuable three-point haul on the road in Serie A2 Women, and the manner of the win — recovering immediately after losing a set — speaks well of the squad's temperament. Away victories of this kind often prove pivotal in a promotion race.

Futura Volley Giovani, meanwhile, will take encouragement from the second set but frustration from the rest. Consistency remains the challenge: competing with strong opponents will require the same level of execution across all four sets, not just one.
