Club Italia W recovered from a second-set setback to defeat Melendugno Women 3-1 in Serie A2 Women on October 24, 2026. The home side produced a composed performance, using their energy at the net and a strong finish to secure an important four-set victory.

Match overview

Club Italia started strongly, using a quick offense and an aggressive serve to keep Melendugno under pressure. The home side took the opening set 25-21, with their outside hitters finding gaps in the block and the middle attack providing a useful balance.

Melendugno responded well in the second set. The visitors tightened their defense, improved their reception and began to win the longer rallies. Club Italia’s attack became less efficient, and Melendugno took advantage to level the match with a 25-22 set.

Key moments

The third set was the turning point. Club Italia came out with renewed focus, re-establishing their serving pressure and forcing Melendugno into several difficult attacking situations. The home side built a comfortable lead and never looked back, taking the set 25-19 to regain control of the match.

Melendugno tried to respond in the fourth set, staying close through the early points, but Club Italia’s block and transition game proved decisive. A mid-set run gave the home side the cushion they needed, and they closed out the match 25-20 to seal a 3-1 victory.

Tactical story

Club Italia’s success was built on energy and execution at the net. Their block was particularly effective in the third and fourth sets, slowing down Melendugno’s outside attack and creating opportunities for quick counterattacks. The home side also served with purpose, keeping the visitors out of system for long stretches.

Melendugno had their best spell in the second set, when their defense held firm and their setter found a good rhythm with the middle. However, they could not maintain that level once Club Italia raised their intensity again. The visitors struggled to contain the home side’s attacking variety in the closing sets.

Standout players

Club Italia’s outside hitter delivered a strong all-round performance, scoring important points in transition and contributing in defense. The middle blocker was a presence at the net, finishing with several key blocks, while the setter managed the offense well and kept the team calm after the second-set loss.

For Melendugno, the opposite hitter was the team’s most consistent attacking threat, and the libero produced a number of good defensive plays. The visitors showed character in the second set, but they will be disappointed with their inability to sustain that level in the third and fourth.

Season impact

The win gives Club Italia W a valuable three points in the Serie A2 Women standings and reinforces the team’s progress. Recovering from a lost set to win comfortably is a positive sign for a young squad, and the result should boost confidence ahead of the next round.

Melendugno Women will take some encouragement from their second-set response, but the overall performance left them with work to do. Improving their serve-receive consistency and finding more ways to score when the block is set will be key as they look to climb the Serie A2 Women table.
