Ravenna claimed a commanding 3-0 away win at Porto Viro in Serie A2, producing a mature performance built on consistent serving, solid block-defense and efficient attacking in transition. The visitors controlled the match from the opening set and never allowed Porto Viro to build sustained momentum.

Match overview

Ravenna’s victory was a textbook road performance. They absorbed early pressure, served with purpose, and gradually imposed their rhythm on the match. Porto Viro had moments of promise, particularly in the first set, but they struggled to maintain reception quality and became increasingly predictable as the match progressed.

• Set 1: Porto Viro 22-25 Ravenna
• Set 2: Porto Viro 19-25 Ravenna
• Set 3: Porto Viro 18-25 Ravenna

The first set was the most competitive. Porto Viro stayed close through the middle stages and found some success with their outside attack, but Ravenna’s composure in the closing points made the difference. Once Ravenna took the opener, they grew in confidence and tightened their grip on the match.

Key moments

The end of the first set was crucial. With the score tight, Ravenna produced a well-timed serving run that forced Porto Viro into two difficult receptions, leading to a block and a transition kill. That mini-surge gave the visitors the cushion they needed to close the set and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

In the second set, Ravenna’s block began to dominate. Porto Viro’s attackers found themselves facing well-formed double blocks, and the home side’s attempts to hit around them resulted in errors. Ravenna maintained a comfortable lead throughout the third set, never allowing Porto Viro to string together enough points to threaten a comeback.

Tactical story

Ravenna’s serve placement was excellent. They targeted Porto Viro’s reception line with a mix of short serves and deep drives, preventing the home setter from using the middle consistently. That forced Porto Viro into more predictable wing attacks, which Ravenna’s block was able to read and contain.

Porto Viro tried to change the momentum with substitutions and more aggressive serving, but the adjustments did not produce the required consistency. Their error count rose in the second and third sets, while Ravenna remained calm and efficient. The visitors’ floor defence also stood out, extending rallies and converting defence into attack.

Standout players

Ravenna outside hitter Alessandro Neri led the scoring with 17 points and was particularly effective in transition. Setter Matteo Galli added four aces and controlled the tempo well, while middle blocker Filippo Raggi contributed four blocks and gave Porto Viro problems through the centre of the net.

For Porto Viro, Riccardo Fabbri top-scored with 13 points and showed fighting spirit, but he lacked consistent support. The home side’s reception struggles limited their attacking options and made it difficult to sustain pressure on Ravenna’s defence.

Standings and season impact

The away sweep is a significant result for Ravenna in the Serie A2 standings, giving them confidence and momentum. Porto Viro will need to address their reception and error control before the next round, as the league’s stronger serving teams will punish similar lapses. Ravenna, meanwhile, look well organized and capable of competing consistently on the road.
