Sinj Women Edge Vukovar in Five-Set Prva Liga Thriller

Sinj Women claimed a 3-2 road victory over Vukovar Women in the Prva Liga Women on 18 October 2026, winning a tense five-set encounter that swung repeatedly before the visitors took the decisive fifth set 15-13.

Vukovar made the stronger start in front of their home support, taking the opening set 25-22 behind aggressive serving and a well-organized block. Sinj responded immediately, leveling the match with a 25-22 second-set win, but Vukovar restored their advantage by claiming the third 25-20. The fourth set proved to be the turning point: Sinj held their nerve in the closing rallies to win 25-23 and force a decider, where they edged a nervous final set 15-13 to complete the comeback.

Match overview

The contest was a classic example of momentum shifting between two evenly matched sides. Vukovar’s best spells came when their serve disrupted Sinj’s first contact, allowing the home blockers to set up against predictable attacks. Sinj, however, grew into the match as it wore on, finding more variety in attack and producing key defensive plays in the back court. The fifth set was decided by small margins — a missed serve here, a transition kill there — and Sinj handled those moments with greater composure.

Key moments

The fourth set was the most important passage of play. Vukovar led for much of it and looked capable of closing out the match, but Sinj stayed within touching distance and then won the decisive points at 23-23. That set win visibly lifted the visitors, while Vukovar’s attacking rhythm faltered early in the fifth. Sinj built a narrow lead and protected it, converting their first match point to seal a memorable away result.

Tactical story

Vukovar’s game plan revolved around pressure from the service line and a strong middle-block presence. When those elements clicked, they controlled long stretches of the match. Sinj adjusted by using more high, deep attacks and by targeting weaker areas of the Vukovar reception. Their passing improved in the latter stages, which allowed the setter to involve more hitters and keep the home block guessing. The visitors also raised their defensive intensity in the fourth and fifth sets, extending rallies and forcing Vukovar into errors.

Standout performers

Sinj’s outside hitters carried much of the attacking load, especially in the fourth-set comeback, while their libero produced a series of important defensive plays in the final set. Vukovar’s captain led by example with several crucial kills, and their middle blockers created problems at the net throughout the first three sets. In the end, Sinj’s greater balance across the court and their calmness in the closing rallies made the difference.

Season impact

The win gives Sinj Women an important confidence boost and valuable points in the Prva Liga Women standings, particularly because it came on the road against a direct rival. For Vukovar, the defeat is a frustrating one after leading 2-1, but the performance showed enough quality to suggest they will remain competitive. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round, with Sinj looking to build on their late-match resilience and Vukovar aiming to recover quickly from a painful five-set loss.
