Modrica edged out OK 7 Lukavac in a five-set thriller on 11 October 2026 in the Premijer liga, taking the match 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-12. In a contest that swayed repeatedly between two well-matched sides, the hosts found their best volleyball in the closing stages of the deciding set to claim a hard-earned victory in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

This was the kind of match the Premijer liga is built on: long rallies, heavy serving, bruising net play and momentum that changed hands with almost every rotation. Neither side managed to build a lead of more than five points at any stage of the opening four sets, and the fifth set was a genuine coin flip until the final few rallies.

Modrica's ability to end rallies with a single swing in the tie-break proved the difference, as they closed out the match with a composed 15-12 fifth set to seal the two points on offer.

Key Moments

• Set 1 (25-22): Modrica edged a tight opening set with a late three-point burst built around two blocks and a service ace.
• Set 2 (23-25): Lukavac levelled after a marathon rally at 22-22, converting their fourth set point with a sharp angle shot.
• Set 3 (25-20): The hosts reasserted themselves, dominating the net and forcing Lukavac into repeated errant attacks.
• Set 4 (21-25): Lukavac responded with their best volleyball of the night, serving aggressively and taking an early lead they never relinquished.
• Set 5 (15-12): At 9-9, Modrica produced three consecutive points — a block, a transition kill and an ace — that effectively decided the match.

Tactical Story

Both teams built their game around the serve, and the match was essentially a battle of who could maintain their passing under pressure for longer. Modrica's block was the more effective unit overall, particularly in the first and third sets, but Lukavac's coaching adjustments in the fourth set — speeding up the offence and using the pipe attack more often — pulled the visitors back into the contest.

The deciding factor in the fifth set was composure. Modrica's more experienced players took responsibility in the biggest moments, while Lukavac's final rotations became slightly predictable, going repeatedly to the same attacking option against a set block.

Standout Players

Modrica's opposite hitter was the outstanding individual of the night, carrying the attacking load through all five sets and delivering the decisive kills in the tie-break. Their middle blocker was immense at the net, and the setter's decision-making in the fifth set was calm and precise.

For OK 7 Lukavac, the outside hitter produced a high-volume, high-quality performance that nearly carried his team over the line. Their libero was exceptional in defence, and their setter's tactical variation in the fourth set was the main reason the match went the distance.

Season Impact

The victory is a valuable one for Modrica in the Premijer liga standings, denying a direct competitor a full haul and reinforcing their reputation for winning tight matches at home. The five-set format means Lukavac still take a point from the trip, but they will rue a missed opportunity to claim a notable away scalp.

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round, with Modrica looking to build on their momentum and Lukavac seeking to convert performances like this into wins.
