Schaffhausen Women secured a convincing 3-0 home victory over Franches Montagnes Women in the NLA Women, delivering a performance marked by steady serving, disciplined blocking and a well-balanced attack. The straight-sets win gave Schaffhausen a full three points and reinforced their ability to control matches on home soil.

The hosts were the more composed side from the opening serve. Schaffhausen used a high serve-receive percentage to run their offense at tempo, while their block consistently slowed down Franches Montagnes’ attacking options. The visitors showed resilience in patches and produced several long rallies, but they were unable to string together enough points to genuinely shift the momentum. Schaffhausen’s ability to side out quickly and apply pressure from the service line proved decisive.

Match overview

Schaffhausen took the first set 25-20, using a mid-set serving run to create separation. The second set was their most dominant stretch of the match: the hosts controlled the net, limited Franches Montagnes’ transition opportunities and pulled away for a 25-18 win. The third set was more competitive, with the visitors finding some rhythm through their outside hitters, but Schaffhausen stayed calm in the closing points and sealed the match 25-21.

Key moments

• Schaffhausen’s serving in the first set forced Franches Montagnes into predictable attacks, allowing the home block to take control.
• The second set featured a decisive Schaffhausen run that turned a narrow lead into a comfortable advantage.
• Franches Montagnes pushed in the third set, but Schaffhausen’s composure in the final rallies closed out the sweep.

Tactical story

Schaffhausen’s win was built on control rather than raw power. The setter distributed the ball well, keeping the middle attack involved and creating one-on-one opportunities for the pin hitters. The home side’s block was particularly effective in the second set, when Franches Montagnes struggled to find angles through the double block. Schaffhausen’s floor defense also held up well, with the back row reading the visitors’ shot selection and keeping rallies alive.

Franches Montagnes had their best moments when they managed to get the ball to the pins in system. Their outside hitters attacked with intent, and the team’s libero produced several strong defensive plays to extend rallies. However, the visitors’ first contact was too inconsistent to sustain pressure. Too many attacks came from poor passes, which allowed Schaffhausen to set up its block early and dictate the terms of the rally.

Standout performers

Schaffhausen’s setter was the standout organizer, keeping the offense balanced and making smart decisions under pressure. The home side’s outside hitters carried much of the scoring load, while the middle blockers contributed important points in transition and at the net. For Franches Montagnes, the libero was a bright spot, and the team’s opposite hitter showed flashes of quality, but the visitors lacked the consistency needed to challenge a well-drilled home side.

League impact

The 3-0 result adds an important three points to Schaffhausen’s NLA Women campaign and strengthens their standing in the table. More importantly, it shows that the team can win in different ways: through serving pressure, through blocking and through patient transition play. Franches Montagnes will take some encouragement from their third-set fight, but the loss highlights the need for greater stability in reception and side-out play. Both teams will now turn their attention to the next round, with Schaffhausen looking to build momentum and Franches Montagnes aiming for a more consistent response.
