Lausanne delivered one of the most complete road performances of the NLA season so far, sweeping Nafels 3-0 on Sunday evening. The visitors controlled the match from the opening serve and never allowed Nafels to settle into a sustained rhythm, closing out the contest in straight sets.

Match overview

The scoreline read 0-3 in Lausanne’s favour, and the set pattern reflected their authority: 25-22, 25-19, 25-21. Nafels stayed competitive in the first and third sets, but Lausanne’s serve-receive pressure and balanced attack gave them the edge in the decisive phases. The win strengthens Lausanne’s position in the NLA standings and adds another important away result to their campaign.

Lausanne’s serving sets the tone

Lausanne’s biggest advantage came from the service line. By targeting Nafels’ receivers with a mix of deep float serves and aggressive jump serves, the visitors disrupted the home side’s first tempo. That pressure forced Nafels into predictable attacking situations, allowing Lausanne’s block to set up early and their defence to convert transitions into points.

When Nafels managed to keep the ball in system, they found success through their outside hitters, particularly in the opening set. But Lausanne’s ability to string together two- and three-point runs at key moments proved decisive. The visitors never allowed Nafels to build a lead beyond a couple of points after the midway stage of any set.

Nafels fight but cannot sustain momentum

Nafels showed character in the first set, matching Lausanne point for point until the closing stages. A late serving run from Lausanne created the separation needed to take the opener 25-22. The second set was more one-sided, as Lausanne’s block tightened and Nafels’ attack became increasingly reliant on high balls from the left side.

The home side responded in the third set and briefly led early, but Lausanne’s composure in the side-out phase kept the pressure on. A couple of crucial defensive plays and a well-timed timeout from the Lausanne bench helped the visitors regain control before closing out the match 25-21.

Standout performers and tactical story

Lausanne’s setter managed the offence intelligently, spreading the ball across the net and keeping Nafels’ middle blockers guessing. The opposite hitter delivered several important points in transition, while the middle blockers contributed both offensively and at the net. Nafels’ libero was busy throughout and produced some impressive defensive plays, but the home side lacked the consistent terminal hitting needed to extend the match.

• Key strength for Lausanne: serve-receive pressure and transition efficiency.
• Key struggle for Nafels: containing Lausanne’s balanced attack after the first contact.
• Turning point: Lausanne’s late run in the first set, which set the tone for the evening.

What the result means

The 3-0 victory gives Lausanne momentum heading into their next NLA fixture and underlines their ability to win on the road against competitive opposition. For Nafels, the defeat is a reminder that small margins in serve-receive and side-out efficiency can decide sets at this level. They will need to regroup quickly and find more consistency in attack if they are to climb the standings.
