Hurrikaani produced a commanding 3-0 home victory over Savo in Mestaruusliiga on Saturday, 24 October 2026, winning 25-20, 25-18, 25-22. The clean sweep earned the hosts a full three points and underlined their efficiency at both ends of the court.

Match overview

Hurrikaani controlled the match from the opening set, applying pressure with a consistent serve and a block that repeatedly slowed Savo’s attack. Savo stayed within touching distance early in the first set, but Hurrikaani pulled away in the closing phase. The second set was even more one-sided, as the home side built a comfortable lead through a long serving run. Savo improved in the third and led briefly, but Hurrikaani’s composure in the final points sealed the straight-set win.

• Set 2: Hurrikaani 25-18
• Set 3: Hurrikaani 25-22

Key moments

The first set turned at 15-14. Hurrikaani’s serve-receive held firm, and the team’s setter began to involve the middle more often, pulling Savo’s block apart. A run of three consecutive blocks gave the hosts a cushion they never surrendered. In the second set, Hurrikaani broke from 8-8 with a seven-point surge, mixing deep serves with sharp angled attacks.

Savo responded well at the start of the third, taking a 16-14 lead and forcing Hurrikaani into a timeout. The home side then changed the rhythm with a couple of tactical serves and a key transition kill, edging ahead 21-19. Savo saved one match point, but Hurrikaani closed it out with a clean attack through the middle.

Tactical story

Hurrikaani’s block-defense system was the foundation of the win. The home blockers stayed disciplined against Savo’s opposite, often taking away the cross-court angle and leaving the visitors with few comfortable options. That defensive structure allowed Hurrikaani to counter-attack quickly, and their transition game was noticeably sharper than Savo’s.

Savo’s reception struggled under sustained pressure. When their first contact was good, the setter could use the middle and create one-on-one situations for the outside hitters. Too often, though, Savo were forced into high balls against a set block. Hurrikaani’s serving strategy was simple but effective: keep the ball deep, force the pass off the net, and let the block go to work.

Standout players

Hurrikaani’s outside hitter led the scoring with 19 points, including four aces, and was consistently effective in transition. The middle blocker added 11 points and five blocks, controlling the net in the second set especially. The libero also deserved credit for a stable reception that gave the setter freedom to vary the attack.

Savo’s opposite fought hard for 15 points, but the team’s attack became too predictable as the match progressed. Their best moments came in the third set, when the block finally started to slow Hurrikaani’s outside attack, but the visitors could not sustain that level through the closing points.

Season impact

The three points strengthen Hurrikaani’s position in the Mestaruusliiga table and give them a valuable early-season confidence boost. A 3-0 home win against a competitive Savo side is the kind of result that can shape a team’s momentum. Savo, meanwhile, will look to improve their side-out consistency before the next round, because their defensive effort was better than the scoreline suggested.
