Ajaccio delivered a commanding home performance in Ligue B, sweeping Cambrai 3-0 in a match they controlled from start to finish. The hosts were sharper in every phase and never allowed Cambrai to settle into a rhythm.

Match overview

Ajaccio took the first set 25-19 and maintained that level in the second, winning 25-21. Cambrai briefly threatened early in the third set, but Ajaccio pulled away midway through and closed out the match 25-18. The straight-sets win gave the home crowd plenty to cheer and sent a clear message about Ajaccio’s ambitions in Ligue B this season.

Key moments

The second set was the most competitive. Cambrai led 14-12 after a run of strong serves, but Ajaccio responded with a well-timed timeout and then reeled off six of the next eight points. The turning point came on a long rally that ended with a block from Ajaccio’s middle, which visibly lifted the home side and deflated Cambrai. From there, Ajaccio’s serving and transition game took over.

Tactical story

Ajaccio’s serving was aggressive and well-targeted, consistently forcing Cambrai into predictable attacks. The home side’s block followed the setter well, and their back-row defence was excellent at picking up tips and cut shots. In attack, Ajaccio’s setter kept the offence balanced, using the middle early to create space for the pins. Cambrai struggled to find any rhythm in reception and were often reduced to high-ball swings against a set block.

Standout players

Ajaccio’s opposite hitter led all scorers with a clinical display, mixing power with smart placement. Their libero was also outstanding, controlling the back court and giving the team a platform in transition. For Cambrai, the middle blocker showed some encouraging signs with a few well-executed quick attacks, but the visitors needed more from their outside hitters to stay in the contest.

Season impact

The 3-0 win gives Ajaccio maximum points and a strong start to their Ligue B campaign. Cambrai leave empty-handed but will take some lessons from the second set, where they briefly matched the hosts. Ajaccio’s performance will give them confidence ahead of tougher tests, while Cambrai will need to improve their serve-receive and side-out efficiency to climb the table.
