Cannes recovered from a difficult start to beat Poitiers 3-2 in an absorbing Ligue A encounter, winning 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13. The away side showed composure in the closing stages to take a hard-fought victory from a match that swung repeatedly between the two teams.

Match overview

Poitiers made the stronger start, edging a tight opening set 25-23 thanks to some efficient attacking and a solid block. Cannes responded well in the second, improving their reception and finding more consistency from the service line to level the match 25-22.

The third set went back to Poitiers, who raised their level again to win 25-21. But Cannes refused to fold, taking a tense fourth set 25-23 to force a decider. In the fifth, the visitors held their nerve, moving ahead early and holding off a late Poitiers surge to win 15-13.

Key moments

• First set: Poitiers won the key points at the end to take it 25-23.
• Second set: Cannes levelled with a more disciplined serving and blocking performance.
• Third set: Poitiers regained the advantage with a 25-21 win.
• Fourth set: Cannes edged a tight set 25-23 to keep the match alive.
• Fifth set: A strong start in the tie-break proved decisive as Cannes closed it out 15-13.

Tactical story

Both teams struggled for sustained control, but Cannes’ adjustments in the fourth and fifth sets made the difference. Their serving became more aggressive, and their block began to close down Poitiers’ preferred attacking angles. Poitiers had chances, particularly in the fourth set, but costly errors in transition allowed Cannes to stay in front.

Standout performers

Cannes’ opposite hitter delivered several crucial points in the deciding set, while their libero produced a series of important defensive plays. For Poitiers, the outside hitters carried much of the attacking burden, but the team could not find the same efficiency in the final set.

Season impact

The win gives Cannes momentum in the Ligue A standings, while Poitiers are left to reflect on a match they could have won. The two-point swing could prove significant as the season develops, with both teams likely to be in the mix for a strong finish.
