Denizli Women vs Yesilyurt Women: Denizli Edge Five-Set Battle 3-2 in 1. Ligi Women

Denizli Women opened their 1. Ligi Women campaign with a gripping 3-2 victory over Yesilyurt Women, winning a five-set contest that ebbed and flowed before the hosts finally sealed it 15-12 in the deciding set at the Denizli Atatürk Sports Hall on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The final scoreline read 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-12. It was not simply a win for Denizli; it was a performance that highlighted their depth, their serving discipline and their ability to regroup after losing momentum. Yesilyurt, for their part, pushed the match to the limit and left with a valuable point despite the defeat.

Match overview

The match pitted two ambitious sides against each other in the early stages of the 1. Ligi Women season, and the contest lived up to its billing. Denizli started brightly in front of their home supporters, but Yesilyurt responded with a stronger block and a more aggressive transition game in the second set. From there, the match became a tactical battle, with both coaches making adjustments from the sideline and both setters increasingly willing to use their middle attackers.

Denizli’s victory was built on a strong opening set, a dominant third set and a composed finish in the tie-break. Yesilyurt stayed in the match through their resilience in defence and their ability to score from the right side, but they could not quite close out the key rallies late in the fifth set.

How the five sets unfolded

First set — Denizli 25-22. The hosts made the faster start, using aggressive serves to keep Yesilyurt away from their preferred first-tempo attacks. Denizli led 16-12 at the second technical timeout and held off a late Yesilyurt surge. A sharp cross-court kill from the left side and a well-timed block in the middle gave the home side the cushion they needed to take the opener.

Second set — Yesilyurt 23-25. Yesilyurt changed the rhythm in the second set, tightening their block and forcing Denizli into more predictable swings. The visitors led for much of the set, but Denizli clawed back to 23-23. Yesilyurt then produced two crucial points — a service ace that clipped the back line and a transition kill after a long rally — to level the match at one set apiece.

Third set — Denizli 25-18. Denizli responded impressively. Their serve-receive stabilised, and the setter began to involve the middle blockers more regularly, stretching Yesilyurt’s defence. A run of four consecutive points midway through the set broke the visitors’ resistance, and Denizli closed it out comfortably to move within one set of the win.

Fourth set — Yesilyurt 20-25. Yesilyurt refused to fade. Their libero produced several outstanding defensive plays, and their outside hitters found better angles against Denizli’s block. The visitors built a 16-12 lead and maintained a three-to-four-point advantage down the stretch. Denizli made a late push, but Yesilyurt held their nerve to force a deciding set.

Fifth set — Denizli 15-12. The tie-break was tense and tightly contested. Denizli jumped ahead 6-3, only for Yesilyurt to draw level at 9-9. At that point, Denizli’s experience and home-crowd energy told. A block on the right side, followed by a clever short serve that disrupted Yesilyurt’s reception, created a two-point buffer. Denizli reached match point at 14-12 and sealed the win with a powerful attack from the back row.

Key moments that decided the match

• The 23-23 finish in set two: Yesilyurt’s late composure in the second set kept them alive and turned the match into a long battle.
• Denizli’s mid-set run in the third: Four straight points transformed a close set into a comfortable 25-18 win and restored the hosts’ control.
• The 9-9 tie-break block: Denizli’s block at the decisive moment gave them the separation they needed in the fifth set.
• Serve pressure in the final points: Denizli’s willingness to serve aggressively late in the match forced Yesilyurt into predictable attacking patterns.

Tactical story: serve pressure and block adjustments

Denizli’s game plan centred on disrupting Yesilyurt’s reception. By serving hard and flat toward the seams, the hosts prevented Yesilyurt from running their full attacking repertoire. That approach paid off especially in the first and third sets, when Deniz
