Siran Akademi and Niksar produced a five-set thriller in the Turkish 1. Ligi on Sunday evening, with the visitors edging a dramatic contest 3-2 after more than two hours of intense volleyball. The match finished 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 13-15, a scoreline that captures just how evenly the two sides were matched from the first serve to the last.

It was a night of long rallies, momentum swings and clutch plays, and ultimately it was Niksar's composure in the decisive fifth set that separated the teams. Siran Akademi, playing at home, will feel they let a real opportunity slip after twice fighting their way back into the match.

A back-and-forth battle from the opening set

The first set set the tone for the evening, with both teams trading points deep into the twenties. Niksar narrowly took it 25-23, capitalising on a couple of late attacking errors from the home side. Siran Akademi responded immediately, raising their blocking intensity in the second set and levelling the match with a 25-22 win that had the home crowd fully engaged.

The third set saw Niksar reassert control. Their serving became more aggressive, and Siran Akademi's reception struggled to cope, allowing the visitors to build a lead they never surrendered. A 25-20 scoreline put Niksar one set away from victory.

Siran Akademi force a decider

To their credit, the home team refused to fold. The fourth set was arguably their best passage of play, with their opposite hitter finding a rhythm and their middle blockers causing consistent problems at the net. Siran Akademi took it 25-20 to send the match into a fifth set, and the momentum appeared to be with them.

The decider was everything a five-set match should be. Neither side led by more than two points for most of the set, and the rallies grew longer as fatigue set in. At 13-13, the match was there for either team. Niksar held their nerve, winning the final two points to seal a 15-13 fifth set and a hard-earned 3-2 victory.

Key moments that decided the match

• Late first-set push: Niksar's ability to close out the opening set 25-23 gave them early belief on the road.
• Third-set serving run: A sustained service pressure phase broke Siran Akademi's rhythm and put Niksar 2-1 up.
• Fourth-set response: Siran Akademi's blocking and home energy forced the match to a decider.
• The 13-13 finale: Two composed points under maximum pressure decided the outcome.

Standout performers

Niksar's outside hitters carried a heavy workload and were rewarded with crucial points in the tightest moments of the match. Their setter managed the game intelligently, mixing the attack and finding the right matchups as the contest wore on. Defensively, Niksar's libero produced several spectacular digs that kept rallies alive at critical junctures.

For Siran Akademi, the opposite hitter was the team's most reliable outlet, particularly in the fourth set, while the middle blockers contributed important blocks. The home side's challenge now is to turn that level of performance into a full five sets of consistency.

Season impact in the 1. Ligi

In a league where every point can matter in the race for promotion and playoff positioning, Niksar's ability to win on the road in five sets is a valuable result. It keeps them moving in the right direction and underlines their credentials as a side capable of grinding out difficult matches.

Siran Akademi, meanwhile, take a point from the match but will be frustrated not to have converted their home advantage into a win. The 1. Ligi season is long, and performances like this suggest they will remain competitive — but narrow defeats in five sets have a way of defining campaigns.
