UKF Nitra Women claimed a 3-1 home victory over UCM Trnava Women in the Extraliga Women on 18 October 2026, turning a tightly contested regional derby into a confident four-set win.

The hosts took the match 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, mixing patient serve-receive volleyball with a decisive blocking run in the fourth set. The result gives Nitra an important early-season boost in the Extraliga Women standings and bragging rights over one of their closest rivals.

Match overview

Nitra started with purpose, using a strong first-ball attack and disciplined block positioning to edge a close opening set. Trnava responded well in the second, tightening their serve and forcing Nitra into longer rallies, but the visitors could not sustain that pressure after the interval.

The third set proved to be the turning point. Nitra rebuilt their lead through better transition play and a series of well-timed blocks on the right side, then carried that momentum into a one-sided fourth set. Trnava fought for every point, but Nitra’s serving depth and composure in the closing stages proved decisive.

Key moments

The first set was level deep into the twenties before Nitra created separation with two consecutive blocks and a sharp back-row attack. Trnava’s second-set revival was built on aggressive serving and improved floor defence, but Nitra regained control early in the third with a 6-2 run that changed the rhythm of the match.

In the fourth set, Nitra’s block-reader in the middle produced a crucial solo stop at 18-15, and the home side closed the match with a clean serving run. Trnava’s libero kept the visitors alive with several impressive digs, but Nitra’s sideout efficiency in the final ten points was the difference.

Tactical story

Nitra’s game plan revolved around serving to Trnava’s left-side receivers and then loading the net with a double block. That approach limited Trnava’s quick attacks and forced the visitors into more predictable high-ball situations. When Trnava passed well, they were dangerous, especially through the opposite hitter, but Nitra’s ability to reset after long rallies stood out.

Trnava’s best spell came in the second set, when they increased their serve velocity and disrupted Nitra’s first tempo. However, Nitra adjusted by using more pipe attacks and back-row options, which stretched Trnava’s block and opened space for the outside hitters. The home setter also did well to involve the middle attackers early in each set, keeping Trnava’s defence honest.

Standout performers

Nitra’s outside hitter led the scoring with a composed all-round display, contributing both in attack and in serve-receive. The middle blocker was influential at the net, especially in the third and fourth sets, while the setter managed the offence intelligently under pressure. For Trnava, the opposite hitter carried much of the attacking load, and the libero produced a number of high-quality defensive plays that kept the match competitive.

What it means for the Extraliga Women table

The win strengthens Nitra’s position in the Extraliga Women standings and gives them momentum heading into their next fixture. For Trnava, the defeat is a reminder that they must find more consistency after strong patches. The head-to-head result will also matter if the two teams remain close in the table later in the season.
