Ujpest Women produced a controlled and confident performance to beat MAV Elore SC Women 3-1 in the Extraliga Women, taking the final two sets with real authority. The Budapest side recovered from the loss of the second set to dominate the remainder of the match, closing it out 25-18 in the fourth.

Match Overview

This was a meeting between two clubs with genuine ambitions in the Hungarian top division, and the opening exchanges reflected that. Ujpest's home advantage and aggressive serving eventually proved the difference, but MAV Elore showed enough in the first two sets to suggest the return fixture will be far from straightforward.

How the Match Unfolded

Ujpest set the tone immediately. A strong serving sequence early in the first set put the visitors under pressure, and the home block capitalised, closing out the opener 25-19 with minimal fuss.

MAV Elore, the Szekesfehervar-based side, responded well. They tightened their reception, began finding success through the middle and edged a competitive second set 25-22 to level the match. At that point, an upset looked a genuine possibility.

Instead, Ujpest reasserted themselves. The third set saw the home side build a four-point cushion midway through and then protect it intelligently, taking it 25-20. The fourth set was their most complete of the night: a 25-18 finish in which the serve, block and transition attack all clicked at once.

Key Moments

• End of the second set: MAV Elore's late surge gave them the set and briefly shifted the momentum of the match.
• Third-set break: Ujpest turned a 14-14 scoreline into an 18-14 lead with four straight points, including two blocks.
• Closing run: Leading 19-17 in the fourth, Ujpest won six of the last seven points to seal the match in style.

Tactical Story

Ujpest's game was built on pressure from the service line, and it worked. By serving aggressively at MAV Elore's outside hitters rather than the libero, they prevented the visitors from running their preferred first-tempo attack for long stretches of each set.

Defensively, Ujpest's block was well organised throughout, consistently funneling attacks towards their libero and turning defence into quick transition points. MAV Elore's best moments came when they managed to slow the tempo and use combination plays, but those moments became rarer as the match progressed.

Standout Performers

Ujpest's opposite hitter led the scoring and was at her most dangerous in the third and fourth sets, while the middle blockers combined for a string of crucial blocks. The setter managed the game intelligently, keeping all of her attackers involved and refusing to over-rely on any single option.

MAV Elore's captain and outside hitter were the standout performers for the visitors, carrying the attacking load in the second set and keeping the scoreboard moving when the match threatened to slip away. Their libero was excellent in defence, saving several points that appeared certain to be winners.

What It Means

Three points in the Extraliga Women standings represent a solid return for Ujpest, who remain firmly in the upper half of the table and will take real confidence from the way they finished the match. MAV Elore leave empty-handed but with evidence that they can compete with the league's stronger sides.

With the two clubs likely to meet again later in the campaign, the tactical battle between Ujpest's serve-and-block game and MAV Elore's more patient attacking approach will be well worth watching.
