Key Moments

The first set set the tone for a close encounter, with Liberec edging the closing points to take it 25-22. Benatky responded well in the second, tightening its serve-receive and finding more success at the net to level the match at 1-1. Liberec’s strongest stretch came in the third set, when the home side built a cushion through blocking and transition play and closed it out 25-20.

Benatky refused to fade. The visitors extended rallies in the fourth set, forced Liberec into rushed attacking choices, and took it 25-22 to send the match into a decider. In the fifth, Liberec’s serve pressure and first-ball control returned at the right moment, allowing the home side to pull away late and seal the win.

Tactical Story

Liberec’s victory was built on serving discipline and a stronger block in the decisive moments. The home side used aggressive serves to pull Benatky’s setter away from the middle of the court, reducing the visitors’ ability to run quick attacks. When Benatky managed to stabilize reception, its outside hitters caused problems, especially in the second and fourth sets.

The difference in the fifth set was Liberec’s ability to convert side-outs under pressure. The home team kept errors low in the final phase and forced Benatky into predictable attacking patterns, which the Liberec block was able to read. It was not a flawless performance, but it was a resilient one.

Standout Performers

Liberec’s opposite hitter carried a heavy scoring load and was particularly effective in the third and fifth sets, where the home side needed terminal swings. The Liberec middle blockers also made their presence felt at the net, producing key blocks in the latter stages and slowing Benatky’s transition game.

For Benatky, the outside hitters kept the team in the match with brave attacking in the fourth set, while the libero’s defensive work extended several rallies. The visitors will take encouragement from their ability to force a fifth set on the road, even if the final result slipped away.

Season Impact

The win gives Liberec early momentum in the Extraliga table and a positive result to build on ahead of the next round. Five-set victories can be especially valuable because they reward teams that hold their nerve late, and Liberec showed precisely that quality in the decider. Benatky, meanwhile, leaves with the disappointment of a loss but with evidence that it can compete deep into matches in the Extraliga.
