Tromso opened their Eliteserien campaign in convincing fashion, defeating Forde 3-1 at home on 3 October 2026. The hosts took the match 25-20, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-21, recovering from a second-set wobble to close out the contest with authority.

It was a performance that underlined Tromso's ambitions in Norway's top volleyball division: powerful at the net, patient in transition, and capable of lifting their level when a set begins to slip away.

Match Overview

Tromso started the match at a high tempo, using their serve to push Forde's reception deep and denying the visitors any comfortable first-ball attacks. The opening set was controlled rather than spectacular, with Tromso edging ahead midway through and finishing strongly.

Forde responded well in the second. Their block found its timing, and their opposite hitters began to find gaps in Tromso's defence with a mix of sharp cross-court swings and well-disguised tips. Leading 18-15, they held their nerve through a tense finish to level the match.

That proved to be the high point of Forde's evening. Tromso regrouped immediately, tightened their serving, and produced their most dominant volleyball of the night in the third set before closing out the fourth in front of a supportive home crowd.

Key Moments

• Set 1 (25-20): Tromso pulled clear with a four-point serving run at 14-13 and never surrendered the advantage.
• Set 2 (22-25): Forde's best stretch of the match — a well-timed block and an efficient side-out game gave them the set.
• Set 3 (25-18): Tromso scored the opening five points and dominated from start to finish, re-establishing complete control.
• Set 4 (25-21): Forde pushed to 19-18 before Tromso won six of the final eight points to seal the win.

Tactical Story

The decisive tactical battle was at the service line and in transition. Tromso's aggressive serving consistently disrupted Forde's first-touch quality, forcing the visitors into predictable attacking patterns on the left. Once Tromso's block had adjusted, their floor defence did the rest.

Tromso also benefited from strong middle involvement. Their quick attacks through the centre kept Forde's blockers from committing to the pins, creating one-on-one situations for the outside hitters in the third and fourth sets. Forde's coaching staff tried a double substitution in the fourth to change the rhythm, and it briefly worked — but Tromso's response at the closing stretch was clinical.

Standout Performers

Tromso's opposite was the standout attacker of the night, carrying a heavy load in the decisive third and fourth sets and delivering repeatedly in high-pressure rallies. The middle blocker partnership was excellent, controlling the net and contributing momentum-shifting blocks. The libero anchored the defence with steady, low-error play that gave the setter the freedom to run the offence she wanted.

For Forde, the outside hitter who drove their second-set revival was the brightest performer, showing real quality in attack. The setter distributed well when her passing held up, but too often she was left scrambling after a poor first contact.

Season Impact

A 3-1 home win is exactly the platform Tromso wanted at the start of an Eliteserien season in which competition at the top of the table is expected to be fierce. Taking three points from a direct rival builds belief, and the manner of the third set — one of total control — will give the coaching staff plenty of encouragement.

Forde, meanwhile, leave with useful material. They proved they can compete at this level and win a set on the road against a strong opponent. Converting that competitive edge into points in the standings is the next step.
